**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Jiaji is famous for its Hainanese chicken rice, and the local version features poached chicken served with fragrant rice cooked in chicken broth. Another staple is the Jiaji beef soup, a hearty bowl with tender beef slices and a peppery broth, usually eaten for breakfast. For a lighter option, try the fresh spring rolls filled with shrimp and herbs, served with a tangy dipping sauce. These dishes are available at most local eateries for around 10 to 20 yuan. **🏮 Old Town Food Street** The Old Town Food Street on Zhongshan Road is the heart of Jiaji's street food scene, bustling from 5 PM to midnight. Vendors here sell grilled skewers, stinky tofu, and sweet potato balls for 5 to 15 yuan per portion. Look for stall number 12, known for its charcoal-grilled squid, and stall 27 for crispy fried chicken. It's a great place to sample multiple dishes in one evening. **🍚 Top Restaurants** For a sit-down meal, head to Jiaji Chicken Rice Restaurant at 88 Haifu Road, which has been serving its signature dish since 1998. A set meal with chicken, rice, and soup costs about 35 yuan. Another favorite is Hai Nan Beef Noodle House at 45 Jiefang Street, where a bowl of beef noodles is 25 yuan and open from 7 AM to 9 PM. Both places are popular with locals, so expect a short wait during peak hours. **🍢 Street Food Stalls** Beyond the main food street, smaller stalls cluster around the Jiaji Night Market on Binhe Road, open daily from 6 PM to 1 AM. Try the grilled oysters at 10 yuan for three, or the fried rice noodles at 8 yuan per plate. The stall selling Hainanese coconut rice cakes, called yi bua, is a local favorite and costs only 3 yuan each. Cash is preferred at most stalls, though some now accept mobile payments. **🍽️ Local Breakfast Spots** Start your day like a local with a bowl of beef soup at Lao Zhang Beef Soup, located at 12 Xinmin Street, open from 6 AM to 10 AM. The soup is 15 yuan and comes with a side of rice or noodles. Another option is the breakfast stalls near Jiaji Bus Station, where you can get steamed buns and soy milk for under 10 yuan. Arrive early, as the best items sell out by 8:30 AM. **🍛 Budget-Friendly Eats** Jiaji is very affordable for food lovers, with many meals costing less than 30 yuan. The campus area around Jiaji Middle School has small eateries offering rice bowls and noodle soups for 10 to 15 yuan. For a filling meal, try the mixed rice stall at 33 Renmin Road, where you can choose three dishes over rice for 12 yuan. These spots are open for lunch and dinner, typically from 11 AM to 8 PM. **🍧 Sweet Treats and Desserts** Cool down with a bowl of shaved ice at Aunty Li's Dessert Shop on 56 Xinhua Road, open from 1 PM to 10 PM. A large bowl with fresh fruit and condensed milk costs 18 yuan. For something more traditional, try the black sesame soup at the night market, priced at 8 yuan. The local coconut jelly, sold in small cups for 5 yuan, is also a refreshing snack. **🚌 Getting Around and Tips** Most food spots in Jiaji are within walking distance of each other, but you can also take local buses 1, 3, or 5 to reach the night market and old town. A bus ride costs 2 yuan, and taxis start at 8 yuan. Bring cash for street stalls, as not all accept cards or phones. The best time to explore the food scene is during the evening when the streets come alive.
