**🏛️ Start at the Museum** Begin your visit at the Gaobeidian Museum of Local History, located at 12 Renmin Road. It's open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and admission is free. The exhibits trace the city's evolution from a farming village to a modern satellite city, with a fascinating section on the region's traditional brick-making industry. **🏞️ Stroll the Riverside Park** For a relaxing afternoon, head to the Bailigou Riverside Park, which runs along the eastern edge of the city. The park's walking paths are lined with willow trees, and you'll find several quiet pavilions perfect for a picnic. It's especially lovely at sunset, when the water reflects the warm colors of the sky. **🏮 Explore the Old Town** Gaobeidian's old town, centered around South Street, still retains a few traditional courtyard homes and narrow alleyways. Stop by the century-old Wang Family Residence at 45 South Street, now a small tea house where you can sample local jasmine tea. The area is best explored on foot, and you'll often see elderly residents playing chess under the ancient locust trees. **🍜 Taste Local Specialties** Don't miss the city's signature dish, guobaorou, a crispy fried pork with a sweet and sour glaze, served at the renowned Laobian Restaurant on Central Avenue. For a quick snack, try the sesame seed cakes from the morning market near the East Gate, which are baked fresh until 10:00 AM. Most restaurants in the city center close by 9:00 PM, so plan your dinner accordingly. **🚌 Getting Around** Gaobeidian is compact, and most attractions are within a 20-minute walk of the central square. Public buses, such as routes 1 and 3, run every 15 minutes from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM and cost just 2 yuan per ride. Taxis are also affordable, with a typical in-city fare around 15 yuan, but be sure to use the meter or agree on a price before starting. **🌃 Evening Entertainment** As night falls, the city's main pedestrian street, Guangming Road, comes alive with street food stalls and small shops selling local crafts. For a cultural experience, check the schedule at the Gaobeidian Grand Theater, which often hosts traditional Chinese opera performances on weekends. Tickets range from 30 to 80 yuan, and shows usually start at 7:30 PM. **🛍️ Shopping for Souvenirs** For unique gifts, visit the Gaobeidian Craft Market, located in the basement of the Wanda Plaza on Jiefang Road. Here you'll find handmade clay figurines and embroidered textiles that reflect the region's folk art traditions. The market is open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and bargaining is expected, so start at about half the asking price. **🌿 Day Trip to the Wetlands** Just 15 kilometers south of the city lies the Gaobeidian Wetland Park, a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. The park features wooden boardwalks through reeds and a viewing tower that offers panoramic views of the marsh. It's open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and you can reach it by taking bus 12 from the central station, which departs every 30 minutes.
