**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Chengjiao is famous for its hearty hand-pulled noodles, especially the beef noodle soup at Lao Zhang Noodle House (No. 45 Chengjiao Main Street, open 7 AM to 9 PM, around 15 RMB per bowl). Another local favorite is the savory scallion pancake, sold at street stalls for 5 RMB, and the spicy tofu pudding at Auntie Li's stall (near the bus station, 6 AM to 10 AM, 4 RMB). Don't miss the steamed pork buns at Chen's Bakery (No. 12 East Lane, 6:30 AM to 7 PM, 3 RMB each). **🏮 Top Street Food Stalls** The night market on Chengjiao West Road (open daily from 5 PM to midnight) is the best spot for skewers, grilled squid, and stinky tofu, with most items priced between 5 and 20 RMB. Look for Uncle Wang's lamb skewers (10 RMB for three) and Sister Liu's fried rice cakes (8 RMB). For a quick bite, the morning market at Chengjiao Square (6 AM to 10 AM) offers fresh soy milk and youtiao for under 10 RMB. **🍚 Budget-Friendly Eateries** If you're watching your wallet, head to the Chengjiao University area, where student canteens like the North Gate Cafeteria offer meals for 10 to 15 RMB (open 11 AM to 1 PM and 5 PM to 7 PM). Another great option is the family-run Little Kitchen on Harmony Street (No. 78, open 10 AM to 8 PM), where a plate of mapo tofu with rice costs 12 RMB. For 20 RMB, you can get a full set meal at the Happy Dumpling House (No. 23 South Road, open 9 AM to 9 PM). **🍲 Sit-Down Restaurants** For a more relaxed meal, try the Chengjiao Hotpot Garden (No. 101 River Lane, open 11 AM to 11 PM), where a shared hotpot for two costs around 80 to 120 RMB. The Old Town Restaurant (No. 5 Ancient Street, open 10 AM to 9:30 PM) serves classic dishes like sweet and sour pork and kung pao chicken for 30 to 50 RMB per plate. Reservations are recommended on weekends, especially for the balcony seating at Riverside Dining (No. 8 Lakeview Road, open noon to 10 PM, mains 40 to 70 RMB). **🍢 Late-Night Snacks** After 10 PM, the BBQ stalls along Night Market Alley (off Chengjiao East Road) stay busy until 2 AM, serving grilled corn, chicken wings, and eggplant for 5 to 15 RMB per item. The 24-hour convenience store, QuickMart (No. 33 Central Avenue), stocks instant noodles and snacks if you need something fast. For a sit-down late meal, the Midnight Diner (No. 17 Station Road, open 8 PM to 4 AM) offers congee and fried noodles for around 20 RMB. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts** Chengjiao has a growing dessert scene, with Sweet Corner (No. 56 Flower Street, open 10 AM to 10 PM) serving mango sago and egg tarts for 15 to 25 RMB. The traditional bakery, Old Chen Pastry (No. 9 Market Lane, open 7 AM to 8 PM), sells red bean cakes and sesame balls for 5 RMB each. For something cold, try the shaved ice stall at Chengjiao Plaza (open 1 PM to 10 PM in summer), where a bowl with fruit toppings costs 12 RMB. **🚌 Getting Around for Food** Most food spots are within walking distance of Chengjiao Metro Station (Line 3, Exit B), but you can also take bus 12 or 45 to reach the night market and university area. A taxi within the neighborhood costs about 10 to 15 RMB, and bike-sharing is available at major intersections for 1 RMB per 30 minutes. Keep in mind that many street stalls close on rainy days, so check the weather before heading out. **💡 Practical Eating Tips** Cash is still king at smaller stalls, so carry small bills (5, 10, 20 RMB) even though larger restaurants accept mobile payments. Lunch hours (11:30 AM to 1 PM) and dinner hours (6 PM to 8 PM) are the busiest, so arrive early or after 1:30 PM to avoid lines. Tipping is not expected, and most menus have pictures or English translations at tourist-friendly spots. If you have dietary restrictions, learn a few phrases like 'bu yao la' (no spicy) to communicate with vendors.
