Stayed near there once, it's District 1 but the quiet edge, so you're close to Bui Vien without the 2am noise. Food-wise the alleys off Tran Hung Dao do cheap com tam and bun thit nuong. Grab into the center runs 40 to 60k depending on traffic.

Check the alley flooding in Sept.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah and it's not just rain volume, the tide pushes water back up the drains so even a short downpour can leave you wading

worst on the 15th to 20th, lunar calendar

honestly 6 weeks is a long time, check if teh place has a proper kitchen or you'll be eating out every meal. Area's fine but weekends get packed with locals too. dunno, maybe just book a few nights first and scope it out

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Booking a few nights first is smart, rates on those monthly-ish places drop a lot if u negotiate in person. Ask about the dien nuoc (electric/water) billing too, some landlords charge foreigner rates.

arrow_drop_up 9 arrow_drop_down

second this, get the dien nuoc rate in writing before u pay

Kitchen's usually just a hotplate, ask for photos.

Agree, but book the first week of Tet, everything shuts.

tbh the weekend crowd thing is real, Nguyen Trai side gets gridlocked sat nights so pick up groceries early.

Is 65k for a com tam in Ho Chi Minh City normal in 2026?

fmd_goodQuán cơm Nga · #food #comtam #benhtanh
Stopped at Quán cơm Nga near Ben Thanh and got charged 65k for a plate of com tam with a fried egg. Is that about right for this area or did I get the tourist price? I'm here for a week so just wanna… Stopped at Quán cơm Nga near Ben Thanh and got charged 65k for a plate of com tam with a fried egg. Is that about right for this area or did I get the tourist price? I'm here for a week so just wanna know what a normal lunch should cost.

65k is on the higher side but not crazy for that Ben Thanh pocket, rents there are nuts. Walk 10 min west toward Nguyen Trai and you'll find com tam plates for 35 to 45k. The 65k is basically the location tax.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

the location tax is real but even the stalls tucked in the alley off Le Thanh Ton hover around 50 to 55k now

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Agree, rents spiked after 2024
