last time i was there i stuck to the bt / le thanh ton area, lots of little places tucked in the alleys off dong khoi. grab a grab or be for getting around at night, the pavements are chaos & motorbikes park everywhere so walking is more of a short-hop thing. beer is cheap, just watch the ice

Agree on the pavements, though I'd say the Dong Khoi alleys are worth a slow wander before it gets too late. The real cluster is around Pasteur and Thi Sach, a few blocks north, quieter and less touristy. Skip the ice in street beer, bottled is fine.

Those Le Thanh Ton alley spots thin out fast after midnight, so start at 7 or 8 if you want a seat.
