Is District 1 safe late at night in Ho Chi Minh City 2026?

Is the stretch from Quán Bạch Tuộc Nướng Nha Trang back toward the backpacker area fine on foot at that hour, or should I not risk it?

Bui Vien itself stays busy past midnight, but the smaller alleys feeding into it get quiet fast, so stick to the main streets.

Pham Ngu Lao side stays lit, alleys off Do Quang Dau don't

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, and the stretch along Cong Quynh stays reasonably lit too, though the side lanes behind it go dark quickly.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Do Quang Dau's own bars keep it lit till 2am though.

Grab bikes are cheap enough that walking back after midnight just isn't worth the hassle.

ModViet Cafe prices for foreigners in Ho Chi Minh City 2026

What's the actual rate for a ca phe sua da there in 2026, and do I just pay what's on the board or is there a separate price for tourists?
arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

no separate tourist price there, board is the board

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Agreed, but the board price at ModViet is around 45k to 55k for ca phe sua da, so check the printed number before ordering.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

45 to 55 sounds about right for the board, but sit inside rather than the terrace if you want to avoid the off menu upcharge. also check the bill against the board, i've had a stray 10k added on

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

unless u sit on the terrace, then ask first

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Board applies, but confirm before they pour.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

point at the number on the menu when u order

arrow_drop_up 11 arrow_drop_down

just pay what's on the board

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Most places, though tourist spots sometimes quote differently.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

The printed number wins, but watch for a separate English menu.

arrow_drop_up 16 arrow_drop_down

ask for the viet menu anyway, same drinks, and the suong sao hot version runs cheaper than the ice
