Is this area of Ho Chi Minh City safe late at night in 2026?
I've only visited, but that spot is in Bình Thạnh, and main roads like Xô Viết Nghệ Tĩnh stay lit and busy past midnight while the small hẻm behind are sketchy.
Agree on the hẻm, and the stretch along Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh toward the bridge has good lighting and late traffic too.
Worth adding that the stretch of Phan Xích Long stays lively well past midnight with plenty of xe ôm and convenience stores open, so that's a comfortable walk. The darker side streets off it toward the canal are where I'd stay alert.
the little food stretch on Ung Văn Khiêm is fine too, but cross Vinh Bình bridge on foot at midnight and it's just you and motorbikes
honestly the bridge itself is fine, it's the unlit approach on the Thị Nghè side where the pavement drops off that gets eerie.
That matches what I saw, though the alley mouths right off the main road are where it gets dark fast, so keep to the lit side.
Grab a ride-hailing app instead of walking, drivers are everywhere at that hour anyway.
yeah apps are the move, tho pickup spots near Điện Biên Phủ can be confusing after midnight so pin the exact corner. drivers sometimes cancel if you're down a hẻm, so walk to teh main road first.
Second this, apps beat walking after dark.
Bún bò Huế price for tourists in Ho Chi Minh City 2026
Honestly there's no tourist menu there, it's one price for everyone, usually posted on the wall. I paid around 60k to 75k last time I was in town, and a local sitting next to me handed over the same. The "foreigner markup" thing is mostly a myth at sit-down spots like that; it's more of a thing at Ben Thanh market stalls. Just check the sign before you order.
yeah the wall sign is the tell, but ask for the small bowl too since that's a few dong cheaper and plenty
Small bowl's plenty, grab extra herbs though
yep the small is enough, but ask for it by name or they default to lon. also the price can drift a bit by branch, so glance at the sign again at the counter before u pay
Agree, but the bún chả stalls on Pasteur do add a few thousand
Posted price goes up most Tet weeks
the posted price thing holds but watch for the "extra meat" upsell, they'll ask and it jumps 15 to 20k. also the smaller alley branches off Vo Van Tan tend to run cheaper than the main spots.
Fair point, though the markup does show up at the tourist-heavy spots around Bui Vien where menus quietly skip the local price.
dunno about that spot specifically but most places the price is just on teh wall so u pay what's listed
