best coffee near ModViet Cafe in Ho Chi Minh City 2026

fmd_goodModViet Cafe · #coffee
Coming to Ho Chi Minh City for a few weeks in 2026 and ModViet Cafe kept popping up. Is it worth a stop or should I be looking at other cafes nearby? Any tips on what to order there? The coconut coffee there is the move, thick and almost dessert-like. If it's packed, walk a block to the little spots on Mac Thi Buoi, cheaper and quieter. Cash only at most of them.

ModViet's egg coffee, and skip the chain spots on Dong Khoi.

Ca phe sua da, and go before 8am.

Bún bò Huế price for tourists in Ho Chi Minh City 2026

What's the actual price I should expect to pay as a foreigner there in 2026, and how much higher is it than what locals pay? I just want the real going rate so I know what to hand over.

Honestly there's no tourist menu there, it's one price for everyone, usually posted on the wall. I paid around 60k to 75k last time I was in town, and a local sitting next to me handed over the same. The "foreigner markup" thing is mostly a myth at sit-down spots like that; it's more of a thing at Ben Thanh market stalls. Just check the sign before you order.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

yeah the wall sign is the tell, but ask for the small bowl too since that's a few dong cheaper and plenty

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Small bowl's plenty, grab extra herbs though

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yep the small is enough, but ask for it by name or they default to lon. also the price can drift a bit by branch, so glance at the sign again at the counter before u pay

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Agree, but the bún chả stalls on Pasteur do add a few thousand

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Posted price goes up most Tet weeks

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

the posted price thing holds but watch for the "extra meat" upsell, they'll ask and it jumps 15 to 20k. also the smaller alley branches off Vo Van Tan tend to run cheaper than the main spots.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Fair point, though the markup does show up at the tourist-heavy spots around Bui Vien where menus quietly skip the local price.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

dunno about that spot specifically but most places the price is just on teh wall so u pay what's listed
