Go before 8am, sells out fast.

Bún Bò Gia Truyền Huế Xưa is solid but the broth leans sweet, so try the smaller stall on Nguyễn Trãi if you want punchier lemongrass.

arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

yeah the sweetness is real, ask for extra mắm ruốc on the side to balance it out

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

the mắm ruốc there is already pretty assertive so taste the broth first before asking for more

Weekday mornings are calmer than weekends, but by 9:30 on a Sunday you're getting whatever's left.

arrow_drop_up 21 arrow_drop_down

sat mornings the queue is mostly takeaway orders so a sit-down bowl moves faster than u'd think

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

honestly 7:30 is safer if u want the gân and bắp still in the pot, by 8 it's mostly broth and noodles

Getting paid in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026: banking tips?

Is it worth opening a local bank account, or should I just use my foreign cards and take the ATM fees? Also curious if transfers from abroad tend to be a hassle.
arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

honestly just use ur foreign card at ATMs and eat the ~50k VND fee per withdrawal, it's cheaper than the paperwork headache of a local account for a few months. If u do open one, bring your passport and visa plus proof of address like a rental contract, the banks are strict on that.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

foreign cards also get skimmed at sketchy standalone ATMs so stick to bank lobbies & check ur statement weekly

I've only visited, but I looked into this before a long stay. A local account with a bank like Techcombank or VPBank is worth it if you're there months, mostly because VietQR payments are everywhere now and cash is a hassle for daily stuff. Foreign transfers are the catch: expect to show your work contract or lease, and SWIFT fees plus a poor exchange rate on the receiving end. Wise or similar often beats a bank-to-bank transfer.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Wise still needs your tax residency sorted first.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Timed transfers before noon clear same day.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

the paperwork hurdle is real though, proof of address tripped me up, a proper tam tru confirmation from the ward office is what banks actually want

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Agree, but MB Bank's app handles foreign cards better.

Cake Digital Bank, free foreign incoming transfers
