Best bún bò Huế in Ho Chi Minh City 2026?

I'm visiting in March 2026 and Bún Bò Gia Truyền Huế Xưa keeps coming up. Is it actually worth the trip, and how spicy is the broth for someone who can't handle much heat? idk, ask for it mild & theyll tone it down

They also bring the chili on the side, so you control it.

good to know, but ask anyway since some places still ladle in a bit of the chili oil before it hits teh table

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Right, and a lot of places spike the broth with sa te chili oil at the start, so say "không cay" clearly when you order.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Sa te goes in before the broth even boils.

Yeah but ask before they ladle the sa te in.

Is it worth opening a local bank account, or should I just use my foreign cards and take the ATM fees? Also curious if transfers from abroad tend to be a hassle.

honestly just use ur foreign card at ATMs and eat the ~50k VND fee per withdrawal, it's cheaper than the paperwork headache of a local account for a few months. If u do open one, bring your passport and visa plus proof of address like a rental contract, the banks are strict on that.

I've only visited, but I looked into this before a long stay. A local account with a bank like Techcombank or VPBank is worth it if you're there months, mostly because VietQR payments are everywhere now and cash is a hassle for daily stuff. Foreign transfers are the catch: expect to show your work contract or lease, and SWIFT fees plus a poor exchange rate on the receiving end. Wise or similar often beats a bank-to-bank transfer.

Wise still needs your tax residency sorted first.

Timed transfers before noon clear same day.
