I went last year and it's not a tourist trap, mostly Vietnamese families grilling at the table. Book ahead for Saturday, walk-ins get squeezed after 7pm. Beyond octopus they do scallops, shrimp, and a decent bò nướng you cook yourself. Prices sit around 200k to 300k per person with drinks. It's on a side street in District 3, a short Grab ride from the center, so worth it if you're nearby rather than a special trip.

Scallops sell out by 8pm, go early.

Agreed, and the ốc hương (babylonia snails) go even faster, so order those the moment you sit down.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Book by phone rather than Facebook since the owner rarely checks messages during service.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Gozleme stand nearby, cash only.

the goi cuon too, easy to miss on the menu

Their mắm nêm dipping sauce is the real reason to go, funky and worth asking for extra.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

weekday lunch is way calmer tbh

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Lunch sets run cheaper too, around 150k.

Yeah midweek midday is a totally different vibe, no queue and the grill stays yours. Just check they're actually open, some of these spots only fire up for dinner on slow days.

Getting a Vietnamese tax number in Ho Chi Minh City 2026

the online portal needs a verified phone number tied to ur passport first, that step blocks most people

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Right, and the SIM has to be registered in your own name at a Viettel or Mobifone counter, not bought pre-activated.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

That passport link trips people because the name on the SIM has to match your visa page exactly, middle names included. I've seen a shortened given name on the contract cause a mismatch, so sort the SIM registration before anything else.

Tax office on Hai Ba Trung, not District 1.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yep its the cuc thue building further up, easy to walk past. bring your passport plus a notarised copy of the visa page, they turned me away for a plain photocopy. go early, queue builds by 9

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

go before 815, tickets run out by lunch

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

also worth knowing it's the cuc thue branch up past the ven hanh intersection, not the small ward office
