Using foreign cards at BCS bar in Ho Chi Minh City 2026

fmd_goodBCS · #visa #mastercard
I'm visiting next month and plan to spend a few evenings at BCS. Do they take foreign Visa or Mastercard, or should I plan on cash, and does the card get charged in VND or with a conversion markup? Carry cash as backup since card terminals there sometimes fail, and always choose to be charged in VND to avoid the markup.

yep, and BCS runs the card in VND natively, no markup

True for the bar, though the ATM you pull cash from might offer its own conversion, so decline that too.

Unless your bank adds its own fee on top.

Second this, just watch the DCC prompt on the terminal.

Your bank's foreign transaction fee, not the bar's, is the real markup.

I went last year and it's not a tourist trap, mostly Vietnamese families grilling at the table. Book ahead for Saturday, walk-ins get squeezed after 7pm. Beyond octopus they do scallops, shrimp, and a decent bò nướng you cook yourself. Prices sit around 200k to 300k per person with drinks. It's on a side street in District 3, a short Grab ride from the center, so worth it if you're nearby rather than a special trip.

Scallops sell out by 8pm, go early.

Agreed, and the ốc hương (babylonia snails) go even faster, so order those the moment you sit down.

Book by phone rather than Facebook since the owner rarely checks messages during service.
