Orlando day trips: any hidden gems?

if you go a bit further north to de land, stetson university's campus has this gorgeous brick architecture and giant live oaks that feel like a movie set. the artisan alley farmers market on saturdays has local honey and handmade stuff, plus a taco spot called la comida callejera that does legit birria. about an hour from orlando but totally worth it for the small town feel without the tourist crowds

honestly skip the springs hype and head to mount dora instead. it's about 45 mins north and has this really chill old florida vibe with antique shops and a lakefront that's actually walkable. grab lunch at the 1921 mount dora, their burger is solid and the patio overlooks the water. if you're into weird roadside stuff, the reptile discovery center in the same area is surprisingly fun for an hour or two

i'd actually go south toward lakeland instead of north. the frank lloyd wright architecture at florida southern college is legit impressive, whole campus is basically a museum. about 50 mins from orlando. the bonnet springs preserve nearby has this boardwalk thru the wetlands where you'll see gators and herons without the disney price tag. grab coffee at concord coffee on massachusetts ave, they roast their own beans and it's in this old house with a porch

One small thing I'd add for day 1 - if you're driving yourself to Magic Kingdom, parking is $30 now and the trams after fireworks can be a 20 minute wait. I usually park at the Ticket and Transportation Center lot instead, it's a bit cheaper and the monorail ride in is part of the experience. Also, the Boathouse is great but their duck fat fries are the sleeper hit on the menu, don't skip those.

For day 2, if you end up at ICON Park around sunset, the Wheel has a "happy hour" ticket from 4-6 PM that's about $10 cheaper than regular price. The view of the city lighting up is worth timing it for that window. And the Ravenous Pig's cheddar biscuits are honestly better than their main courses, I'd grab an order of those as a starter.

solid plan overall, but one thing i'd add is for day 1 - if you're doing magic kingdom all day, you might be wiped out by the time you hit disney springs. i'd prob skip the boathouse and just grab a quick bite at d-luxe burger in springs instead, it's way less fuss and you can still catch the live music without a long sit-down dinner. also, for lake eola on day 3, if you're there on a weekend, the farmers market is on sunday mornings - not in your plan but worth a peek if you

honestly this is a solid itinerary, you've clearly done your homework. one thing i'd tweak is day 2's lunch at east end market - it's great but can get packed on weekends, so if you're there on a saturday maybe grab a quick bite at gideon's bakehouse in the same plaza instead, their cookies are insane and the line moves fast.

also for universal on day 3, if you're not staying at a resort hotel that gives early admission, get there by 7:45 AM instead of 8:30. the early entry crowd floods hagrid's first thing, so you'll beat the worst of the wait if you're in the regular queue right when it opens. i did that last summer and was off the ride by 9:15 with maybe a 30 min wait.

the ravenous pig is a solid pick for winter park, but make a reservation a week out if you can, especially for dinner. they fill up fast and walk-ins can be an hour wait on a tuesday. lake eola at night is a nice touch too, the fountain lights up every 15 mins after dark.
