Vintage Avenue LA 2026: is this a scam?

Cash upfront for a "secret" sale is the tell. Legit sample sales in LA (the Cooper Design Space ones, etc.) don't work that way. If it's near Vintage Ave and Hollywood Blvd, that's a known hustler corner. Keep walking.

The Alley on Santee, weekdays only.

Larchmont farmers market, Sundays only, same rule applies

Melrose Trading Post, Sunday mornings, same hustle.

Yeah that corner's been sketchy for years, and real sample sales never ask for money before you even see the rack.

Santee Alley vendors take cards now, fwiw.

Anyone demanding payment before you see the goods is running a hustle, so just keep walking and don't hand over a cent.

Proof Bakery, order the kouign amann instead.

Second this, the kouign amann sells out by ten.

Fair call, though I'd get there by 8 on Saturday since the case thins out fast.

what u getting there besides the kouign amann tho

Their pain au chocolat is the real sleeper there, and the line moves quicker than the laminated case suggests.

Yep, but get there closer to 7:30, the kouign amann tray's usually gone by 8:15 on a weekday too.

If you're near the Larchmont spot, Clark Street does a solid almond croissant and their bread is worth the detour. On weekends go before 9 or the case gets picked over. Expect to pay around $6.

The almond croissant is worth it but I'd skip the weekend crush entirely and go Tuesday around 8, when the case is still full and there's no line. Heads up that parking on that stretch is permit-only after 8am, so read the signs.
