Is the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach the one to go for, or is there something closer to the city that's just as good? Any tips on timing to avoid the school groups would help too.

Long Beach is worth the drive, but hit it right at 9am opening on a weekday, school groups roll in around 10:30.

yeah and parking fills up fast so get there before opening tbh

That 10:30 wave is real, I'd also say go straight to the shark lagoon first since everyone bottlenecks there later. Weekday afternoons after 1pm are actually pretty calm too if you can't do opening.

Agreed, though the member preview hour at 8am on Saturdays is the real cheat code for avoiding crowds entirely.

Worth noting the member hour only covers Aquarium of the Pacific, so if you're doing the annual pass math, it pays off after about two visits. Otherwise the weekday after 2pm slot is nearly as empty and free of the surcharge.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro, free and quiet.

Good call on the free part, but the touch tanks and the grunion program are what make it worth the stop with kids. Weekday afternoons are dead quiet there.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Weekday afternoons work great, just check the grunion program schedule first since it's seasonal and runs on specific nights.

those touch tanks are where my kids lose an hour easy. fwiw the grunion runs are usually march through june on the full and new moons, so check a tide chart before u promise the kids anything.

The tide pools out back are the real draw for kids, and parking costs a few bucks on weekends unlike the lot itself.

Best croissants near Levain & Co in Los Angeles 2026

Anyone else hit up Levain & Co on weekends? Their laminated stuff is legit but I wanna branch out, so where are u getting your croissant fix nearby? Drop recs please. Proof Bakery, order the kouign amann instead.

Second this, the kouign amann sells out by ten.

Fair call, though I'd get there by 8 on Saturday since the case thins out fast.

what u getting there besides the kouign amann tho

Their pain au chocolat is the real sleeper there, and the line moves quicker than the laminated case suggests.

Yep, but get there closer to 7:30, the kouign amann tray's usually gone by 8:15 on a weekday too.

If you're near the Larchmont spot, Clark Street does a solid almond croissant and their bread is worth the detour. On weekends go before 9 or the case gets picked over. Expect to pay around $6.

The almond croissant is worth it but I'd skip the weekend crush entirely and go Tuesday around 8, when the case is still full and there's no line. Heads up that parking on that stretch is permit-only after 8am, so read the signs.
