Kitchen closes at 9, so eat before.

Worth adding that last orders are 8:40, so don't roll in at 8:55 expecting a plate.

Honestly for pub food I'd skip that whole stretch and hit Wirsthaus on Lincoln instead, better schnitzel and it's open later. If you're set on a roast though, check somewhere with a proper carvery setup.

Fair point on the schnitzel, though a proper carvery roast is harder to find out here than people assume.

Their scotch egg and chips are solid and the pies are better than you'd expect for a spot that size. If you want a real sit-down meal though, keep walking east a few blocks, there's decent Thai and a taco spot that locals actually rate. Just don't expect the roast to blow you away.

Best pastries at Sweet Lab in Los Angeles 2026?

Visiting LA next month and Sweet Lab keeps coming up for pastries. What should I actually order there and is it worth a detour? Any idea on prices and best time to go before stuff sells out? Sweet Lab's kouign amann is the sleeper hit, go by 8am on a weekday since weekends sell out by 9.

They've been holding a few back for the 9:30 wave on weekends, so you don't have to line up at dawn anymore.

Kouign amann's solid but I'd argue the canelé deserves the same hype, they nail the crust. Weekday mornings still hold up, though I've had luck around 10 on Thursdays when the office crowd thins out. Prices run about $5 to $7 each.

canelé's the move. cash only after 9 though

Weekday 7:30, not 8. Cinnamon knots go first.

fair but 8 is cutting it close on mon & tue, those are the bakery's prep mornings so trays land late. aim for 8:30 those days & you skip the line entirely

nah mon and tue they open late, more like 9
