Leaving LA's High Cost of Living?

Buying a house here on a single income feels impossible, and I'm starting to wonder if I should move, not because I don't love LA, but because I want some financial breathing room. Anyone else feeling this way?

yeah I get it. I moved from koreatown to long beach five years ago and my rent dropped like $600 for a bigger place. the commute to downtown is annoying but not horrible and I actually walk to the beach now which is a nice tradeoff. also property taxes are way lower than what youd pay in some of the smaller cities closer to LA. if you're open to it look at the south bay or even parts of the valley where you can still find two bedroom apartments under 2500. you don't have to leave california to get some breathing room, just leave the priciest pockets of LA

If you're open to leaving California entirely, a lot of people overlook the inland Northwest. I have a friend who moved to Spokane three years ago and bought a three-bedroom house for what a one-bedroom condo goes for in Silver Lake. You lose the ocean and the year-round perfect weather, but you gain seasons and actual equity. The tradeoffs are real but for some people the math just works better.

Fourteen years is a solid run. I know a few people who made the move to places like Portland or Austin, but a surprising number just shifted neighborhoods within the county. A friend left her Echo Park rental for a small duplex in South Pasadena, and the drop in rent alone let her start a proper IRA. It's still not cheap, but it's a different kind of slow, and you keep your network and your favorite taco spots.

How can I find mobile hot dog vendors for a private event?

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
