Where can a 25-year-old woman find emergency housing that accepts pets?

She fell behind on rent do to PTSD/anxiety related to a previous assault and is now being evicted. She's a very resilient and hardworking person but the circumstances of late have just been overwhelming for her and she couldn't go to work due to panic attacks. She lost her job and is now being forced to leave her home. We tried using Stay Housed LA but they are backed up and do not prioritize her zip code. Please, any advice is welcome. Airbnb is out of her budget and there's not many available that will accept pets. Are there any emergency services or housing options for her? 🙏

Call Downtown Women's Center in Skid Row. They take women 18+ and sometimes accept pets if the animal is a service animal or emotional support animal with documentation. If her psychiatrist or therapist can write a quick letter, that could make the difference.

Also check with Wags and Walks in West LA. They run a foster program for pets of people in crisis, so they can board her dog or cat temporarily while she gets into a shelter. That's often faster than finding a shelter that takes animals directly. She would just need to provide food and vet records.

Have her contact the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). They might be able to connect her with emergency shelters that allow pets, or at least point her towards resources that can help her navigate this. It's a long shot, but it's worth a try given her situation. Also, checking with local animal shelters; some might have temporary housing programs or know of resources specifically for people with pets facing homelessness.

try reaching out to St. Joseph Center in Venice, they have a rapid re-housing program specifically for women and don't always require a zip code priority. for the pet part, Best Friends Animal Society in Mission Hills has a safety net program that covers temporary pet boarding for up to 90 days while someone gets stable, and they pick up from anywhere in LA county. the key is getting her into a shelter or motel voucher first, then separate the pet situation so it's not a blocker. also worth asking at the Saban Community Clinic on Beverly Blvd, they have social workers who know the low-income housing pipeline better than most hotlines do

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
