Yaamava and LA advice.

I am flying into LA Monday morning to meet my daughter and her girlfriend and hangout with them and their dog for 36 hours. Last time I did this, we got a hotel by the beach, had dinner and just watched Netflix in the hotel room (with the dog). Everyone got bored. My daughter (24) and I love to play slots, we always have a great time so I told her to find the closest casino to LAX and a hotel that takes pets. She found a casino called Yaamava that is 90 mins away and a Motel 6 that takes dogs right next to the hotel. So question, is this the best casino for us to go within a 90 mins drive? Second and more important question, what else can we plan on doing between LA and Yaamava (San Manuel) so that we are not just taking a gambling trip.

With two 20somethings and an active dog, would anyone have any good ideas of what we could do during the day that would be fun and memorable? Her girlfriend isn't a gambler and I just want everyone to have a great trip. If you know the area and have some suggestions I would really appreciate it.

I fly in into Lax Monday 830am and have a flight out on Tuesday at 5pm. Thanks in advance!

Yaamava is actually a solid pick for slots, it's one of the biggest casinos in Southern California and the floor is huge, so you won't feel cramped. But 90 minutes from LAX is optimistic with traffic, plan for closer to two hours on a Monday morning. The Motel 6 in Highland is fine, but if you want something cuter with a dog, check the Hotel Mirabelle in Palm Springs on the way back, though that might stretch your timeline.

For the non-gambler and the dog, hit the Claremont Village on your way to the casino, it's a college town with a walkable main street, coffee shops, and a big park called Memorial Park where the dog can run. Then take the scenic route up through Mt. Baldy, even just a quick drive to the village for lunch, the mountain air is a nice break from the casino haze. On Tuesday before your flight, swing by the Huntington Library in San Marino, the gardens are dog friendly and it's a stunning spot, plus it's only 20 minutes from LAX if you head straight down the 110.

honestly yaamava is the right call for slots, it's massive and the payouts are decent, but if u want a change of pace try the 99.9 ranch market in rancho cucamonga on the way, it's a huge asian grocery with a food court, fun to wander even if u don't buy anything, and they have a little dog area outside. for the girlfriend and the pup, grab coffee at klatch in upland, it's a real local spot, then do a quick hike at the north etiwanda preserve if the weather's clear, it's dog friendly and the views of the valley are killer, not too hard either. honestly 36 hours is tight, so i'd skip palm springs, it's another hour past yaamava and u'll eat ur whole day driving. tuesday morning, hit the original farmers market at 3rd & fairfax before u fly out, it's pet friendly and the food stalls are perfect for a quick lunch, plus it's like 20 mins to lax from there. just budget extra time for the 10, it's always a gamble itself lol

Pack layers. It's like going from winter to summer in one flight. And bring sunscreen, even if it's cloudy. That LA sun is a beast.

Best beer selection near Hops Hall in Los Angeles 2026

Anyone know what the tap list at Hops Hall is looking like in 2026? I've been meaning to swing by for a pour but want to know if the rotation's still solid before I make the trip. the rotation still moves, they had a hazy & a couple sours on when i stopped by last month. if u want variety tho i'd hit the fridge at Sunset Beer Co first, way deeper list & u can take cans to go

Highland Park Brewery, right off Fig, better for hoppy stuff.

Hermosillo's tap list beats both for hoppy stuff.

honestly the cooler at Cap N Cork in Los Feliz is underrated for cans, way less picked over

Agreed on the depth, though their coolers get picked clean of Pliny fast, so go early in the week.

Their tap list rotates Thursdays, cans hold better.

Sunset Beer Co is solid but their taps are the sleeper, not just the fridge. Grab a pour there before you haul cans around, way fresher than anything sitting cold.

Fair call on the rotation, but I'd give yourself a buffer on timing, they tap the new stuff early evening and the good hazy usually kicks by Friday night. If you're driving over, the lot behind the building fills up fast after 6.

yeah the lot's a mess after 6, i usually just park on the side streets off York and walk. way less hassle. good call on the friday thing tho.
