Best boxing gyms?

Just recently moved back to LA county (Downey, Bellflower, Norwalk area) from military service. I picked up boxing while in the military and had an awesome gym that was not only for boxing, but offered normal gym necessities such as machines, free weights, etc. It was perfect, due to the fact that while I was training boxing, my wife would be able to do her normal weight lifting workouts. I've used google and Yelp to search around but haven't really found anything Is there any gyms of that fit that criteria in the area I'm looking for? (Downey, Bellflower, Norwalk)

You're in a tricky spot for that combo. Most boxing gyms in that area are pure fight gyms with zero weights, and the commercial gyms don't have boxing bags. I'd check out Maywood Boxing Club on Atlantic, it's not far from you and they have a small weight area with dumbbells and a couple machines. It's not a full Planet Fitness setup but enough for a solid lift, and your wife could probably get a day pass to use the weights while you're on the bags.

Boxing and weights under one roof is tough in that corridor. You might want to drive a bit up to the LA Boxing on Firestone in Downey. It's a chain but they actually have a decent weight area with cables and dumbbells, plus your standard bag work and ring space. Your wife can get a membership just for the weight floor while you focus on the boxing side, and it's right off the 5 so easy access from Bellflower or Norwalk.

honestly might be worth looking at some of the LA fitness locations out there. the one on imperial in norwalk has a small corner with a heavy bag and a speed bag, plus the full weight setup for your wife. not a dedicated boxing gym vibe but it checks both boxes for you guys

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
