Red Light Cameras

Are these things still active in LA county? I accidentally entered the intersection just as the light was turning red (misjudged the yellow. Bad. I know.). There was a camera facing me but it didn't flash. Will I get a ticket in the mail and will it be a real red light ticket from the government or will it be a snitch ticket? Thoughts?

Ps. I know I'm an idiot. If it's any consolation it was dark and no one was on the road. It was too late for me to stop so I just cleared the intersection. I've learned my lesson.

fwiw the whole "no flash means no ticket" thing is pretty reliable in LA county, but even if it did catch you, you got options. I've had a friend fight one in Culver City and win just by showing the light timing was too short for the speed limit, which is a real thing here, some yellows are only like 3 seconds which is borderline illegal. check what street it was on, if it's in a city that contracts with Redflex or ATS, those are the private ones that send the "notice of violation" that's not a real court ticket, you can usually just ignore those and they drop it after a while, though it might ding your credit if you finance a car. honestly the bigger risk is if it was a city-run camera like in Beverly Hills, those go straight to the court system. give it a month, if nothing shows up in the mail you're good, and if something does, post the pics on the subreddit before you pay anything, people love dissecting those.

The camera not flashing is a strong sign you're fine, those things pop off even in daylight so no flash usually means no capture. One thing that helps is knowing which city you were in, since LA proper has mostly deactivated them while places like West Hollywood and Glendale still enforce heavily. If you do get a notice, look for the city seal and a court case number, a real citation comes from the Superior Court, not a private company. You can also check the photo timeline online, if your front wheels crossed before the red, you've got a solid defense. Give it two or three weeks, then you can safely forget about it.

honestly you're prob fine. most of the red light cameras in LA county are still active but they're mostly in specific cities like Beverly Hills, Culver City, and parts of the valley. if it didn't flash, that's a good sign, they usually flash even in daylight. the ones that don't flash are usually the newer radar-based ones, but those are rare here. even if you get something in the mail, it's a real ticket from the city, not a snitch thing, but they have to prove you ran it past the line, and misjudging yellow is a gray area. i've seen people fight these and win just by showing the intersection was empty and they couldn't stop safely. keep an eye on your mail for two weeks, but i'd bet you're clear.

How can I find mobile hot dog vendors for a private event?

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
