I am in Santa Clarita, right where the 5 meets the 14, and I need to be in Chinatown tomorrow for a 9:30am doctors appointment. What time should I leave to be getting off the freeway at about 9?

I would rather give extra time and get there early, so conservatively, what would you say?

Happy Holidays everyone!

honestly with holiday traffic being weird i'd say leave by 7:30 and just accept you might be early. the 5 down to the 110 is brutal but if you hit the 14 merge before 7 you're fine, after that it's a gamble. park on a side street off yale or college street, way easier than the lots near the plaza which fill up by 8:30. grab a congee at hop woo if you're early, that's my move.

If you're leaving from the 5/14 junction, I'd say head out by 7:45 at the latest. The 5 south through the Newhall Pass can back up fast, especially after the holidays when people are back on the road, and once you hit the 110 it's stop and go through downtown. Better to sit in a coffee shop near the appointment than in that mess. If you're lucky, you'll roll into Chinatown around 8:45, grab a spot on a side street off Broadway, and have time for a proper breakfast before your appointment.

The 5/14 merge is the wild card, but since you're already right there, you can check the traffic on the 5 south before you leave and adjust. I'd still leave by 7:15 to be safe, because once you pass the 170 split it's usually a crawl until downtown, and the 110 exit for Chinatown can back up into the lanes. If you're early, park on Alpine Street near the plaza, it's free and usually has spots before 9, then walk over to Phoenix Bakery for a coffee and those strawberry mochi while you wait. That beats sitting in the car any day.

Best beer selection near Hops Hall in Los Angeles 2026

Anyone know what the tap list at Hops Hall is looking like in 2026? I've been meaning to swing by for a pour but want to know if the rotation's still solid before I make the trip. the rotation still moves, they had a hazy & a couple sours on when i stopped by last month. if u want variety tho i'd hit the fridge at Sunset Beer Co first, way deeper list & u can take cans to go

Highland Park Brewery, right off Fig, better for hoppy stuff.

Hermosillo's tap list beats both for hoppy stuff.

honestly the cooler at Cap N Cork in Los Feliz is underrated for cans, way less picked over

Agreed on the depth, though their coolers get picked clean of Pliny fast, so go early in the week.

Their tap list rotates Thursdays, cans hold better.

Sunset Beer Co is solid but their taps are the sleeper, not just the fridge. Grab a pour there before you haul cans around, way fresher than anything sitting cold.

Fair call on the rotation, but I'd give yourself a buffer on timing, they tap the new stuff early evening and the good hazy usually kicks by Friday night. If you're driving over, the lot behind the building fills up fast after 6.

yeah the lot's a mess after 6, i usually just park on the side streets off York and walk. way less hassle. good call on the friday thing tho.
