For a unique perspective, check out the graffiti wall along the Grand River near the Bridge Street ramp. The ever-changing street art and the reflection on the water make for some really dynamic shots, especially on a cloudy day.

If you're willing to drive about ten minutes north, the lookouts along the Grand River on Leonard Street offer a completely different view than downtown. The water moves fast there and the old industrial buildings across the river give it a moody, almost forgotten feel. For something more polished, the sculpture garden at Frederik Meijer Gardens is worth the entry fee, especially in the morning when the light hits the bronze pieces just right.

The Blue Bridge at sunset is a classic for a reason, you get the river and the skyline all in one frame. If you want something a bit different, head up to the Belknap Lookout on the northeast side of downtown, it gives you a great elevated view without having to hike. For a more gritty urban feel, the alleyways off Ionia Avenue between Fulton and Oakes have some nice murals and textures.
