City Museum London tickets 2026: card or cash?

City Museum · #museum

Coming over from Dublin in March and planning to hit the City Museum. Do they take contactless cards at the door in 2026 or should I pull out cash first? Also curious if my Irish debit card works fine… Coming over from Dublin in March and planning to hit the City Museum. Card's fine everywhere including the gift shop, but book online first cos the door queue on Saturdays is grim.

juliaschoe… local · 1d

yeah booking ahead is the move, but weekdays after 2pm are dead quiet if u can shift it. Irish debit works no bother, it's just normal contactless. Gift shop's a bit pricey mind.

arabella local · 1d

Sunday mornings are worse than Saturdays honestly, the 10am opening scrum by the main entrance on Bishopsgate is something else.

Book the first slot, 10am

ricarda local · 1d

Gift shop takes contactless, the cafe's kiosk is cash only.

carina local · 1d

pretty sure that kiosk went contactless last summer, the one by the roman gallery anyway, the others still want coins

karstaorlo… local · 23h

the one upstairs does card now too

carina local · 1d

aye the main cafe counter takes card now, only the little cart by the courtyard entrance still wants coins

barbaraschreier local · 1d

Fwiw the museum's free entry, you only pay for the special exhibitions. Contactless works fine but some Irish banks slap a non sterling fee on, so check before you tap. Cash is pointless here honestly.

juditha local · 1d

Fair point on the fees, Revolut tends to dodge that if ur bank's being stingy.

Is Route 9 Diner worth a stop in 2026?

Route 9 Diner · #roadtrip #detour #diner

Road tripping through in 2026 and Route 9 Diner keeps popping up. is it actually worth the detour or just a tourist trap? and is the area around it fine to stop at late at night or should i keep drivi… Road tripping through in 2026 and Route 9 Diner keeps popping up. is it actually worth the detour or just a tourist trap? and is the area around it fine to stop at late at night or should i keep driving?

Westminster's a different diner entirely.

karstaorlo… local · 14h

just ask anyone local, they'll point u to the right one

ira local · 15h

fair point, people mix those two up all the time. Fwiw the old diner site is just past the pike exit, not really a detour at all... shame it's gone tho.
