Is the area around City Museum safe at night in 2026?

Barbican tube, stick to Beech Street

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Aldersgate Street's fine too, well lit.

Fair point, though the stretch past the Museum of London roundabout gets patchy with fewer people about after 10.

Image bianca local ·

true, though the stretch by the police station is brighter than the bit near the roundabout. i'd still head up to the station rather than cut down the side roads tbh.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

agreed but the bit north of the station gets quiet past 10, id stick to the main drag & cross over at the lights rather than jaywalking the side roads. also the 153 runs late if ur heading toward liverpool street

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah that stretch is fine, just cut through the Barbican estate itself if its raining, its covered most of teh way.

Watch out for the Whitecross Street bend though, quieter and dimmer once the market's shut.

the bend itself is fine, its the bit past the golden lane turning thats dead after the market packs up. i just walk down to old street station instead, more people about

beech street's covered walkway spits u out right by the station entrance so u barely touch the road

Moorgate's the better exit if ur heading west, fewer dark corners than the silk street side

Best diner breakfast near Route 9 in 2026?

fmd_goodRoute 9 Diner · #breakfast #diner #route9
Visiting the area next month and Route 9 Diner keeps coming up. Is it still the go to for a proper breakfast in 2026, and what should I actually order? The Route 9 Diner in Amherst is a totally different place from London's Route 9, so if you mean the Massachusetts one, order the corned beef hash.

Image arabella local ·

yeah, two different places entirely, though honestly if you're near Kensington High Street the breakfast at the Whole Foods on the corner is decent for a quick sit-down. corned beef hash sounds right for the other one.

corned beef hash is the move there, extra egg on top

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down
Image jennyjuerg… local ·

Get it with the home fries instead of toast

Ask for the hash crispy on the flat top, otherwise it comes out a bit wet.

worth knowing the amherst one is a different beast entirely, cash only & shut by 2 most days

Two eggs over easy, not scrambled.

Spot on about the confusion. My local Route 9 is just the A4 through Hammersmith and Brentford, no diner in sight. For a proper fry-up out that way, the caffs along King Street do the job.

Image juliaschoeler local ·

If you're actually after a London breakfast, skip the chains and try a proper caff. E. Pellicci on Bethnal Green Road does a solid full English, and the family running it are lovely. Get there before 9 to grab a table.

Pellicci's is worth the queue but mind it's cash only & shut Sundays and Mondays. Go midweek if u can, saturday morning is carnage
