The Anchor pub in London 2026, worth the trip?

The Anchor is fine but honestly the food is average pub grub, I'd eat at Borough Market first then walk down. Go on a weekday afternoon, weekends the riverside terrace is rammed with tourists.

Agree, but check the tide times first.

Ask for the balcony table, first come first served.

fwiw the food's not the point there, just grab a bag of chips and watch teh river go by.

yeah weekday afternoon is the move, but avoid 5-7pm cos the city crowd piles in off London Bridge. if u do eat there the fish and chips is the only thing worth ordering, rest is forgettable

Timing matters more than day of week there tbh, check the tide tables before u commit. At high tide the water's right up against the terrace wall and it's a completely different vibe. Low tide you get the mudlarks out which is half the fun.

Spring tides are the ones to watch, they swing furthest either way so you get the full contrast. Mudlarks mostly show on the really low ones, and a neap high tide barely clears the wall. Tide Timings or the Port of London app has it to the minute.

Opposite the pub there's a small beach at low tide, best spot to catch the mudlarks properly.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

honestly the Borough Market plan works but walk down via Clink Street, nicer than the main road

Upstairs balcony, low tide, pint of Doom Bar.

fmd_goodBlanc Restaurant · #restaurant #menu #prices
walked past Blanc on the way home and the menu looks decent but the prices have crept up. anyone been recently? trying to work out if it's worth it in 2026 or if i should stick to my usual spot nearby walked past Blanc on the way home and the menu looks decent but the prices have crept up. anyone been recently? trying to work out if it's worth it in 2026 or if i should stick to my usual spot nearby

honestly i'd skip the tasting menu and just do a la carte at the bar, better value and u still get the room.

Image karstaorlo… local ·

bar menu's cheaper before 7 too

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down
Image ira local ·

worth knowing the pre-7 discount only applies at the bar counter, not the tables, so u cant sit down and get it

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Image karstaorlo… local ·

yeah the bar seats go fast after 6:30 though so turn up early or u end up standing

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Agree, but check the bar menu changes daily so the a la carte value depends on which night u go.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down
Image jennyjuerg… local ·

good point on the daily changes. wednesdays are usually the weaker night if u ask me, fish-heavy and a bit samey. thurs to sat is when the bar menu's actually worth the trip.

Image arabella local ·

tasting menu's the only way to get a table past 8

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Image barbarasch… local ·

True, but the bar menu's smaller after 9

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

a la carte beats the set menu every time

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Image violamerkl local ·

Only if you're at the counter by 6.
