Join a weekly 5-a-side league through Better gyms or Powerleague, costs about £8 a game and you'll know the same faces within a month.

yeah the 5 a side thing works, check gumtree or local facebook groups too, some of those are cheaper than the gym ones. what area u moving to?

Footy is decent but a running club like GoodGym mixes fitness with pub trips after.

Meetup app works too, check the recurring ones

the recurring ones are key, the one off socials are mostly dead ends. filter by 'ongoing' & check the group's last few event dates, some look active but haven't run since autumn. south london groups tend to be more consistent than zone 1 ones in my experience

check the group's actual event calendar tho, some look busy but the recurring bit died months ago

book clubs at your local library or a weekly parkrun are better for actual repeat faces tbh

Powerleague courts book up weeks ahead in winter so grab a regular slot early. Also check your council's leisure centre, they run cheap midweek leagues that are way less competitive than the chain ones.

Image carina local ·

council ones also do pay monthly direct debit so it works out nearer a fiver a session if u commit

Second this, but pick a fixed night early or you'll get shuffled.

Best Costa Coffee in London for a Quiet Morning in 2026

I'm trying to find a Costa near the City that's actually calm before 8am, not the packed one on Cheapside where you can't get a seat. Does the branch by St Paul's open early enough for a proper sit down coffee, and is the Wi-Fi decent if I want to work for an hour?

the one on st martins le court off ludgate opens at 6.30 weekdays and is dead til about 7.45, wifi holds up fine for email & slack. cheaper than the pauls churchyard branch too. avoid mon mornings tho, the office crowd floods in earlier

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Second this, though Tuesday's just as bad after 7.30.

Wednesdays too, post 7.30 it's rammed

arrow_drop_up 8 arrow_drop_down

Good shout on the price, though the seats by the window are the ones worth nabbing before the 7.45 rush.

corner table by the plug socket is the real prize, gone by 7.15 most days

Honestly the one tucked inside the Royal Exchange does a decent quiet start, doors open 6.45 and it's mostly security guards and a couple of laptops till 8. Wi-Fi's fine, sockets are scarce though so grab the wall table near the stairs.

Upstairs shuts at 7.30 for cleaning, mind

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down
