Proper livid right now. This week I've had five buses terminate early on me!!! Fucking fuuuuumingggg.

Does someone know why this happens? And why its happening more and more? Buses are increasingly no longer a viable mode of transport.

I'm gonna give myself rage induced kidney stones at this rate

yeah nah mate you're not wrong, it's happening way more than it used to. one thing people don't mention is that tfl has been cutting the "recovery time" at the end of routes. used to be a bus would sit at the terminus for 5-10 mins to catch up, now they just send it straight back out and if traffic fucks the schedule they just bail early. the 243 near wood green is a classic example, they'll just turn around at seven sisters instead of going all the way to tottenham hale. if you're relying on a bus for a specific time try the ones that start from a tube station like finchley central or Golders Green, they tend to be more reliable because the driver actually gets a break there

It's the driver shift patterns more than anything. Drivers have to finish at their allocated garage by law, and if they've been stuck in traffic for an hour, they'll just terminate wherever they are and head back. The 25 and the 8 near Mile End are notorious for this just before 9pm. If you're catching a bus that runs through central, try hopping on a stop or two earlier where the driver is more likely to be starting fresh. The buses that run from the outer garages like Potters Bar or Romford tend to hold up better because the shifts are timed for longer routes.

honestly the main reason is driver shortages and schedule changes that tfl hasn't updated properly. the new timetable might say a bus goes to the garage but the app still shows it going all the way. if you're on the 38 or the 73 near hackney this happens all the time around 10pm. also check the digital boards at the stop, sometimes they show a yellow warning about early termination but the app doesn't. still annoying as hell tho

What are some innovative ways to anonymously compare rental prices in a city?

I'm looking for methods or platforms that allow residents to anonymously share and compare rental prices in their area. What options exist for this purpose? SpareRoom's "rooms wanted" ads are underrated for this. people post what they're currently paying alongside what they want next, so you can scrape a rough sense of going rates by postcode without anyone knowing you looked. it skews young and flatshare heavy tho, so not much use if you're after 2-beds in zone 2.

Another one is just the depozit or tenancy deposit scheme data. not public-facing, but your council's housing officer can tell you median rents from deposit registrations if you email them under FOI. takes weeks, but its proper anon and nobody clocks u.

Rightmove and Zoopla only show asking rents, which are often 10 to 15 percent above what a place actually goes for, so they're a poor benchmark. The trick I've used is the ONS Price Index of Private Rents, which breaks things down to borough level and is genuinely anonymous since it's aggregate data, no listing or account needed. For something more granular, the London Renters Union runs a rent reporting tool where you submit what you're paying with your postcode and it maps it against others nearby, though the coverage is patchy outside the inner boroughs.

the openrent "rent check" thing is decent for zones 3-4 where the unions tool barely reaches. also worth checking the london.gov.uk planning portal for new build applications, they list "affordable" and market rent figures per unit in the viability assessments, which is basically the developer telling the council what they expect to charge. bit of a faff to dig through but its public, anonymous & nobody knows ur looking
