🍛 Golden Mile Indian Eats
The Belgrave Road stretch, known as the Golden Mile, is the heart of Leicester's Indian food scene. Start at Bobby's Restaurant at 154 Belgrave Road, a Leicester institution since 1976, where a thali costs around £12 to £16 and the chilli paneer is legendary. For street-style snacks, try the chaat and samosas at nearby shops like Ambala Sweet Centre at 112 Belgrave Road, open daily until 9pm. Most places here are cash-friendly and busy after 7pm, so arrive early or book ahead.

🍽️ Stoneygate Fine Dining
Stoneygate and nearby Clarendon Park offer Leicester's more upscale dining rooms. The Case Restaurant at 4-6 Hotel Street in the city centre serves modern British plates with mains from £18 to £28, while the Michelin-listed John's House in Mountsorrel (a short drive north) is worth the trip for its tasting menu at around £75 per person. For a mid-range option, The Langton Arms on Loughborough Road does excellent pub classics for £12 to £18. Book at least a week ahead for weekend dinners.

🥙 Leicester Market Street Food
Leicester Market on Market Place is one of the largest covered markets in Europe and a goldmine for cheap eats. Grab a hot pork cob from the market's traditional food stalls for under £5, or head to the food court for Caribbean, Polish, and African vendors with meals from £6 to £10. The market runs Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm, and is a five-minute walk from Leicester railway station. Bring cash for the best deals, though most stalls now take cards.

🍜 Narborough Road Global Bites
Narborough Road was once named the most diverse street in Britain, and its food reflects that. Try the Vietnamese pho at Pho Real at 2 Narborough Road for around £9, or the Turkish kebabs and mezze at Antep Grill at 128 Narborough Road, where a mixed grill for two costs about £25. For something sweet, the Polish deli at 45 Narborough Road sells fresh paczki for £1.50 each. Buses 50 and 51 run along the road every few minutes from the city centre.

🍰 Clarendon Park Cafes
Clarendon Park, especially along Queens Road, is the go-to for brunch and coffee. The Caffeine Lounge at 34 Queens Road serves flat whites for £3.20 and full English breakfasts for £8.50, opening at 8am daily. For something sweeter, the nearby Cocoa Amore at 4 Allandale Road makes handmade chocolates and hot chocolate from £3.50. This area is popular with students, so expect queues on weekend mornings.

🍺 Traditional Pub Grub
Leicester's historic pubs serve hearty, affordable meals. The Globe at 43 Silver Street, a 19th-century pub near the cathedral, offers pies and chips for £10 to £14, with real ales from £4 a pint. The Ale Wagon at 27 Rutland Street is a classic free house with a rotating menu of British classics, mains around £12. Most pubs serve food until 9pm, and Sunday roasts sell out by 3pm, so go early.

🌮 Late Night Eats
After a night out, Leicester's late-night food scene centres on London Road and the city centre. The Kebabish Original at 128 London Road stays open until 3am on weekends, with kebabs and curries from £7. For something different, the food trucks at the Silver Arcade night market (first Friday of each month, 6pm to 11pm) offer tacos, bao, and loaded fries for £5 to £9. Taxis from the city centre to London Road cost about £6.

💷 Budget Tips and Deals
Leicester is one of the most affordable cities in the UK for eating out. A filling lunch at a market stall or Narborough Road cafe rarely exceeds £7, and many restaurants offer early-bird menus before 7pm with 20 to 30 percent off. Look for the Leicester Food and Drink Guide app for daily deals, and note that most places add a 10 percent service charge only for parties of six or more. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory.

good effort putting this together, covers most of the bases. one area i'd flag is the Narborough Road section, Pho Real shut down a while back, think it's a different place now. if you want decent pho nearby try the spots further down toward the Fosse Road end, or honestly the Vietnamese places on Belgrave Gate are more consistent anyway.

also worth mentioning for late night, the London Road bit is right but the really good stuff is the little Somali and Kurdish places tucked off the side streets near the station, open till 4am some nights, huge plates for like £6. not fancy but exactly what you want at that hour.

Nobody's touched the Leicester outdoor market's fish section yet, which is worth a mention if people are cooking rather than eating out. The wet fish stalls on the far side do bags of prawns or a whole sea bass for under £8, and you can get it gutted and filleted on the spot. Saturday before 10am is when the selection's best, by noon it's picked over.

On the eating side, one thing the guide gets right is the early-bird deals but I'd push the Belgrave Road lunchtime thalis specifically. Plenty of the smaller places do a full thali for £7 to £9 between noon and 2pm, same food as the evening menu at nearly half the price. The Belgrave Commercial Centre food court on Belgrave Road is the underrated one, six or seven counters under one roof and you can eat well for a fiver.

the bit about the market is spot on but worth adding its the saturday morning you want for the real gems. there's a stall in the food court doing scotch bonnet jerk and rice for about £7 that has a queue by 10am, mostly taxi drivers and market traders rather than shoppers. also the pork cob is good but the bacon & egg bap from the same row for £3.50 is the actual move if you're there early

one thing the guide misses entirely is the Oadby and Wigston side. the parade of shops on The Parade in Oadby has a few belting places, the thai spot does a pad thai for £8 and the south indian place next door does dosa for under £6. bit of a trek on the 31 but quieter & cheaper than town on a weekend

Many museums in Leicester are free, including the New Walk Museum and Abbey Pumping Station. A Leicester City Council parking permit for the day costs around £5 at selected car parks. good effort pulling all this together, the Abbey Pumping Station bit is spot on and underrated, most people skip it for the space centre next door.

one thing though, day 3 is a lot to cram. the Jain Centre and the mandir are both worth a proper look, not a quick in and out, and they're not right next to each other either. if you're doing Belgrave in the morning you're prob better off picking one temple and giving it time, then doing lunch after.

also fwiw Belgrave Road on a weekday morning is way calmer than the weekend, shops open around 10 and you'll actually get served. weekend afternoons it's shoulder to shoulder.

on the food, Bobby's is fine but it's the safe tourist pick now. if you want the real thing walk a bit further to one of the smaller places past the flyover, cheaper and better thali. the £10 estimate is about right though.

arrow_drop_up 21 arrow_drop_down

solid write up that. one thing id add for day 1, the cathedral gets busy with school groups mid morning so if u wanna actually see the Richard III tomb without a crowd go right at 9 or after 3. also the visitor centre ticket is worth doing the combined one with the cathedral if they still offer it, saves a couple quid.

for the Golden Mile bit, dont sleep on the sweet shops. Pooja Sweets on Belgrave Road does fresh jalebi and barfi, way better than anything in teh city centre. and if u go on a Sunday its rammed so plan around it.

on getting around, the bus to Belgrave is fine but honestly the walk from town up Belgrave Road is only 25 mins and u pass all the shops, kinda the point of it. day ticket is closer to £6 now btw, prices went up this year.

arrow_drop_up 8 arrow_drop_down

the town centre walkability bit is right but worth flagging that New Walk is pedestrian only since like 1785, no cars at all, so the walk from the station up to the museum is genuinely nice and not just a pavement slog. most visitors never find it cos they stick to London Road.

for the market, tuesday and friday are the big stall days, other days half the pitches are empty. if u want the proper market experience go then, otherwise it's a bit flat.

one thing missing from the food section is breakfast at Mrs Bridges on Loseby Lane, tiny place, does a proper fry up for under a tenner and it's been there forever. the Coffee House Company is fine but it's more of a sit with a laptop crowd.

on the parking permits, the £5 council ones are only certain car parks and some of them fill by 9am on weekends, so dont bank on it.
