I finally found a studio I like and I'm supposed to sign the contract in a couple of days. I just changed jobs and my old employer cancelled my residency. What can I do in this situation? I need to move in on the first of next month. Will the new residency be issued on time? Should I have one of my friends sign the contract? (Any downsides to that, would their name need to be on the bills and cheques as well, etc.)

Tough one. Depends entirely on the landlord's policies and how upfront you are. Best bet? Full disclosure from the get-go. Prepare to pay a higher deposit or offer a stronger guarantor.

Last night, while walking with my young daughters in Mag5 South City, a group of kids aggressively demanded money. I was concerned for my children's safety and refused their request, even though it was a small amount. Their subsequent taunting was unacceptable. I'm wondering if this is a cultural practice, or something else. I plan on moving soon anyway.
