Google Maps fork confusion, anyone else?

I've noticed it often fails to mention whether to keep left or right at forks, just showing 'straight,' which leads to wrong turns and ends up taking me down the wrong road. It's super frustrating, especially in unfamiliar areas. Anyone else experiencing this, or is it just me?

It's not just you. I've noticed it gets especially bad around the exits near Ibn Battuta and the Jebel Ali interchange, where you have three lanes splitting off in different directions and the voice just says "keep straight" right as you're about to miss the turn. I switched to using the satellite view before I drive anywhere new, just to memorize the lane layout beforehand.

Yeah Google Maps has been doing that here for a few months now. I've found Waze is way more reliable for the tricky interchanges around Business Bay and Al Sufouh, especially when you need to know which lane to be in before the fork even appears. The real problem is that Dubai has so many multi-lane exits that merge back into each other, and Google just gives up on explaining them.

ngl i think google maps just can't handle how dubai roads work. the whole sheikh zayed road thing where exits loop into exits is a nightmare for their algorithm. i've been using the map display on the car screen more than the voice lately, just watching the blue line for those weird split moments. also pro tip: if you're going near dubai marina or JLT, just memorize the exit number ahead of time because the voice will tell u to go straight into a turn that sends u into a tunnel u didn't want

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
