Why do most taxi drivers here drive so recklessly?!

I will use Uber even though the cost is a little higher as it seems to be worse with Careem drivers.

My driver got into an accident today, because he was speeding so much and didn't leave enough space with the car in front. We up hitting both the car in front, and got hit by the car behind us. Thank goodness for him that I was wearing my seatbelt.

Why do taxi drivers always drive like maniacs in Dubai? They are so impatient and seriously drive like their husbands/wives are dying in the hospital. Why the huge rush?! And putting not only their own lives in danger but the customers' as well. Such despicable and unacceptable behaviour.

ngl the commission system is a big part of it but also a lot of these guys are driving 12 hour shifts with barely any breaks, trying to make rent back home. the RTA taxis on SZR and around the marina tend to be a bit more chill cause they're monitored more strictly, but during rush hour near the Trade Centre roundabout you'll see everyone lose their minds. if you really want peace, try the Dubai Ferry from Al Ghubaiba to Marina, it's like 3 dirhams and you skip all the traffic madness

honestly it's the commission system that drives them crazy, they're racing against time to hit targets. if you want a chill ride try using the Hala taxis from the app instead, way more regulated and drivers get paid better so less incentive to speed

idk man maybe try booking through the regular rta taxi app instead, those drivers seem way less stressed than the careem guys and they know the shortcuts better

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
