🗺️ Day 1 Morning: Old City
Start your first day at 9:00 AM in the Old City neighborhood, beginning at Batman Castle (Hasankeyf Yolu, open 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, entry 20 TL). Spend an hour exploring the ruins and views, then walk 10 minutes to the Old Mosque (Ulu Cami) on Gültepe Street. From there, stroll 5 minutes to the historic covered bazaar for a quick tea break at a local café like Çay Ocağı on Pazaryeri Street.

🍽️ Day 1 Afternoon: Lunch and Culture
For lunch around 12:30 PM, head to Batman Sofrası on Atatürk Boulevard for a traditional kebab meal (expect 60 to 80 TL per person). After eating, walk 8 minutes to the Batman Museum (Müze Caddesi, open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, entry 15 TL) to see regional artifacts. Then take a 15-minute taxi ride (about 30 TL) to the Ziya Gökalp Neighborhood to visit the Atatürk Park and relax.

🌆 Day 1 Evening: Riverside Walk
As evening approaches, head to the Batman River promenade near the Karaköprü area, a 20-minute walk from the museum. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the river from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, then dine at Nehir Restaurant (River Street, open until 10:00 PM) for fresh trout (around 90 TL). After dinner, take a 10-minute taxi back to your hotel in the city center.

🏞️ Day 2 Morning: Hasankeyf Trip
On day two, depart at 8:00 AM by minibus from Batman Otogar to Hasankeyf (journey takes about 1 hour, fare 25 TL). Explore the ancient cave dwellings and the new Hasankeyf Castle from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM (entry 30 TL). Before leaving, visit the Hasankeyf Museum (open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, entry 15 TL) to learn about the area's history.

🥙 Day 2 Afternoon: Local Flavors
Return to Batman by minibus around 1:00 PM and have lunch at Hasankeyf Sofrası near the otogar (meal about 50 TL). Then take a 10-minute walk to the Batman City Park (Park Caddesi) for a relaxing afternoon. At 3:00 PM, visit the nearby Cultural Center (Kültür Merkezi) on Sanat Street, which often hosts free exhibitions.

🛍️ Day 2 Evening: Shopping Street
From 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, explore the bustling Ticaret Street for local shops and souvenirs. Stop at the historic Kervansaray Café for a Turkish coffee (15 TL) and people-watching. For dinner, try the popular Batman Pide Salonu on Gültepe Street (pide around 40 TL, open until 9:00 PM).

one thing missing is the tea gardens up on the hill above town, great view over the plain around sunset & barely anyone up there. also most of the kebab spots shut the kitchen between lunch & dinner so plan around that gap

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

good effort laying this all out. one thing i'd add: prices are already drifting up for 2026, so budget maybe 20 percent more than listed. also carry small cash for the minibus & street vendors, cards are hit or miss

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

day 2 afternoon is too packed, city park & kültür merkezi are a 20 min walk apart not 10, budget more time

🏰 Explore Hasankeyf Castle
The ancient cliff-top fortress of Hasankeyf, now a major attraction in Batman province, offers sweeping views of the Tigris River and the new dam lake. Entry costs 50 TL for adults, and it's open daily from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM (until 7:00 PM in summer). Insider tip: visit late afternoon to catch the golden hour over the water, and bring sturdy shoes for the uneven stone paths.

🕌 Marvel at Malabadi Bridge
This 12th-century Seljuk bridge spans the Batman River about 25 km east of the city and is one of the finest medieval bridges in Anatolia. There's no entrance fee, and the best time to photograph it is early morning when the light hits the stone arches. Local tea houses near the bridge serve strong çay for 10 TL, perfect for a break after the drive.

🛍️ Wander the Old Bazaar
Batman's central bazaar area, around Cumhuriyet Caddesi and the surrounding streets, is a lively spot to soak up local life. You'll find everything from fresh produce to copperware, and prices are negotiable, so don't be shy about bargaining. The bazaar is busiest on Saturday mornings, and it's a five-minute walk from the main bus terminal.

🍽️ Taste Local Kurdish Flavors
For an authentic taste of the region, head to the restaurants along Atatürk Bulvarı, where you can try lahmacun for around 30 TL or a hearty kuru fasulye for 40 TL. A standout is the family-run Cigerci Hacı in the city center, known for its grilled liver and fresh salads. Most eateries open at 11:00 AM and stay busy until late evening, so arrive before 7:00 PM to snag a table.

🚌 Getting Around Batman
Batman is compact, and many central attractions are walkable, but for Hasankeyf and Malabadi you'll need transport. Minibuses (dolmuş) run frequently from the central otogar to Hasankeyf for about 20 TL, taking 30 minutes. Taxis are also available, with a trip to Hasankeyf costing roughly 150 TL one way; renting a car for the day (around 400 TL) gives you the most flexibility.

🌳 Relax in City Parks
Batman has several green spaces perfect for a breather, such as the Batman Park near the municipality building, which features walking paths and tea gardens. Entry is free, and it's open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. On weekends, locals flock here for picnics, so join them with a simit and some cheese from a nearby bakery.

🏞️ Discover the New Hasankeyf
The original Hasankeyf was partially relocated due to the Ilısu Dam project, and the new town offers a fascinating look at how heritage is preserved. The new Hasankeyf museum displays artifacts from the old town, with entry at 30 TL and open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It's a thought-provoking contrast to the ancient castle and worth an hour of your time.

☕ Sip Tea Like a Local
No visit to Batman is complete without experiencing the tea culture, and the riverside tea houses along the Batman River are ideal spots. A glass of tea costs 10 TL, and you can linger for hours without being rushed. The best ones are near the Malabadi Bridge and in the city center, where you can people-watch and practice your Turkish with friendly locals.

Good writeup. One thing missing: the dolmuş to Hasankeyf drops you at the new town, so you need a short taxi up to the castle. I'd budget an extra 50 TL or so for that.

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

spring means sheep grazing on the castle slopes & fresh herbs at the bazaar, that's my favorite detail

arrow_drop_up 6 arrow_drop_down

one thing i'd add is the road between Batman and Malabadi has a couple of çay stops with actual river views, way better than the tea houses near the bridge itself. pull over at the one just past the turnoff, the owner grills trout if u ask
