Sukhumvit Sleepless Nights?

fmd_good Sukumvit Backpacker

I stayed at the Sukhumvit Backpacker last month, amazingly cheap, right in the heart of Bangkok's craziness. The thing is, the air con was… inconsistent. One minute freezing, the next I was sweatin… more

Lol, that sounds rough. Air con woes are the WORST, especially in @Bangkok's humidity. I haven't stayed at the Sukhumvit Backpacker myself, but I've heard similar stories about inconsistent AC in various budget hostels around that area. Your best bet is probably checking recent reviews on Google, Booking.com, or Hostelworld – people usually mention that sort of thing. Or, even better, email the hostel directly; they might be upfront about any ongoing issues. Packing layers is smart regardless, though. Bangkok weather is unpredictable, to say the least.

Yeah, totally get that. Inconsistencies with AC are a nightmare, especially when it's that humid. I'll definitely check those sites for recent reviews – good call. Emailing them directly is probably the best way to go to make sure I don't end up sweating my brains out. Thanks for the heads-up! Layers it is then. I should of packed more anyway.

Wandee Woes?

fmd_good Wandee Apartment

Stayed at Wandee Apartment in Phuket last week. Place was...fine. Basic, but clean. My issue? The wifi. Absolutely abysmal. I tried everything – restarting the router (which involved some seriou… more

Yeah, Wi-Fi in budget places in Thailand can be a nightmare. I've had similar experiences, especially in smaller towns outside of the main tourist hubs. Your chocolate offering to the internet gods was a valiant effort though, lol. Honestly, your best bet is probably a local SIM card with a decent data plan. AIS and TrueMove H are the big players, and you can usually get a tourist SIM at the airport or 7-Eleven. It’ll be way cheaper and more reliable than relying on guesthouse Wi-Fi. Plus, you'll have data for maps and everything else. Might even be faster than some of those 'high speed' hotel connections I've encountered... Just be sure to check the data limits before you buy!
