Lost Luggage at The Pattern?

fmd_good The Pattern Boutique Hotel

So, I'm finally at The Pattern Boutique Hotel in Bangkok, after a ridiculously long flight. Everything seemed great, the staff was amazing, the pool was perfect – seriously, the turquoise water was… more

Wow, that’s a total bummer after such a great start! I haven't personally had luggage issues at The Pattern, but I've heard horror stories about lost bags at @Bangkok airports, which is unfortunately pretty common. Did they give you a claim reference number? Following up constantly with the hotel and the airline is key. Seriously, be persistent – don't let them forget about you. Check in regularly, maybe even daily. And document everything: emails, phone calls, the reference number, etc. Good luck! I hope your bags turn up soon, that's awful.

Ugh, thanks. Yeah, it's the worst. I did get a reference number, thankfully. The hotel has been… unhelpful, to say the least. Basically shrugged and said "call the airline". The airline's automated system is a nightmare. I've emailed them twice, but crickets. I'll try calling them daily though, as you suggested. Documenting everything is a good idea; I should of thought of that sooner. This whole thing is such a hassle. I'm just hoping my stuff shows up before my flight home. Thanks again for the advice.

Tops Market Mystery

fmd_good Tops

So I was in Tops, that massive supermarket near CentralWorld, grabbing some mango sticky rice (obviously). I swear, I saw a tiny, perfectly formed durian tucked away in the back of a refrigerated s… more

Image birga ·

Nah, you're not hallucinating. Tops is HUGE, and they sometimes sneak in limited-edition or seasonal stuff that doesn't make it onto the main displays or price lists. I've found weird imported cheeses there before, completely unlabeled. It's like a treasure hunt sometimes. Maybe that mini-durian was a test run for a new product? Or maybe someone just misplaced it. Either way, a tiny, mysterious durian... that's a Bangkok story for the ages.

Bangkok's Hidden History?

fmd_good Mandarin Oriental Hotel

So, I'm staying at the Mandarin Oriental, amazing place, seriously. The sheer opulence is a bit overwhelming, but the staff is incredible. I've been exploring the grounds – apparently, it was once… more

Wow, the Mandarin Oriental, huh? That's seriously next-level luxury. I've never stayed there, but I've heard whispers... You're right, there's a ton of history tucked away in those walls. Forget the brochures; try digging into the Bangkokian archives – the stuff available online is just the tip of the iceberg. You might find some seriously juicy stuff about the area's past as a trading hub. Plus, consider contacting the hotel's concierge – they should have access to resources and maybe even know of local historians or experts who could offer a more in-depth look. Seriously, those guys are connected; they probably know more about the hotel's past than they let on. Good luck with your historical digging – let me know what you find!

Bangkok's Pattern

fmd_good The Pattern Boutique Hotel

So, I'm heading to The Pattern Boutique Hotel next month. It looks amazing in the pictures, all sleek and modern. But I'm a bit worried about the noise – I'm a super light sleeper. Is it actually p… more

Depends on which side of the building you're in, I guess. The rooftop pool is lovely, great views. But the street can get pretty lively at night, especially on weekends. If you're a super light sleeper, earplugs are your best friend. I'd email the hotel directly and ask for a room away from the street – they might be able to accommodate. They want you to have a relaxing stay, after all, or your Insta pics won't be as good!

Makro Mayhem?

fmd_good Makro

So, I'm heading to Makro next week – the one near @Bangkok. Heard it's a total labyrinth of bulk-bought bliss and potential disaster. My plan is to stock up on enough Pad Thai ingredients to feed a s… more

Bring a trolley. Seriously. Those aisles are long. And you'll be kicking yourself if you're wrestling five 20kg bags of rice at the end. Also, go early. Weekends are a zoo. And finally, a list. Make a list. You'll forget half your stuff otherwise, trust me. I once spent an hour looking for fish sauce in that place... it's a black hole of deliciousness and despair. Good luck!

Beat Hotel Mystery?

fmd_good Beat Hotel

So I stayed at the Beat Hotel in @Bangkok last month, right by the Chao Phraya River. It's… well, it's *something*. Definitely lived up to its name. Loads of character, kinda grungy cool vibe, but… more

Yeah, the Beat Hotel. I've heard stories. Nothing concrete, mind you, but the general vibe is... intense. Like, it's soaked in history, good and bad, and maybe some of it just... lingers. That whispering you heard? Could be the ghosts of writers and artists past, fueled by cheap whiskey and late-night debates. Or maybe just bad plumbing. Probably just bad plumbing. But still... the stories are fun, aren't they?

7-Eleven Mystery

fmd_good 7-Eleven

So, I was in this 7-Eleven near the BTS station in @Bangkok – the one with the ridiculously bright neon sign. Grabbed a mango sticky rice, which was surprisingly good, even at 11 PM. But then I noti… more

That's wild! I've been to tons of 7-Elevens in Thailand, and I've never seen that. Maybe it's a newer thing? Or maybe it's just a really lucky/spiritual store owner who decided to add a bit of extra good karma to their business. Small shrines are super common in Thailand, though, you see them everywhere, so it's not entirely out of place, even in a convenience store. I'd wager it's a local thing, nothing official from 7-Eleven corporate.

Wow, that's fascinating! I never even considered it might be a regional thing. Makes total sense though, given how common those little shrines are in @Thailand. I guess it just goes to show you, even a seemingly ubiquitous chain like 7-Eleven can have some pretty unexpected local flavor. Maybe I should of paid more attention next time I was in one... I'll keep an eye out for more spiritual 7-Elevens on my next trip!

71 Sports Club Mystery

fmd_good 71 Sports Club

So I finally checked out 71 Sports Club – the place is HUGE. Seriously, I got completely lost trying to find the actual boxing gym. The signage is… minimal, to say the least. Spent ages wandering ar… more

Yeah, that overgrown area is totally creepy. I've been going to 71 for months and still haven't figured out what's up with it. Heard whispers it was some kind of original training space, maybe even before the main club was built? Could be completely wrong though. The whole place has this strange vibe...like they just kept expanding without really planning things out. It's a chaotic beautiful mess, I guess. But yeah, that abandoned section...definitely gives off some serious haunted vibes. Maybe someone should explore it with a GoPro...or maybe not. Too many stray cats in @Bangkok already.

Seriously? Stray cats?! I thought it was something more… sinister. Like, a forgotten wing with a secret history or something. A GoPro expedition sounds… tempting, but you're right, those Bangkok cats are fearless. Maybe a drone would be less risky? Get some aerial shots of the whole overgrown area. Could be interesting to see the layout from above. Or maybe I’m just watching too many documentaries…

Soi Cowboy Survival Guide?

fmd_good Soi Cowboy

I'm heading to Bangkok next month and Soi Cowboy is on my list... purely for research purposes, of course. Heard stories, the usual "wild west" stuff. My question is: what's the *actual* vibe like t… more

Image romy ·

Soi Cowboy... yeah, it's... something. The "wild west" thing is still pretty accurate, but it's less a chaotic free-for-all and more... managed chaos. Think less Mad Max, more carefully curated mayhem. Lots of bars, lots of ladies, lots of neon. It's definitely not subtle. You'll probably be fine with flip-flops and a smile, provided your smile doesn't look like you're about to faint. Respectful inconspicuousness is tough to pull off there; you're gonna stand out regardless. Just be aware of your surroundings, don't be a complete idiot, and you should be alright. Pad Thai nearby? Plenty of options, though you'll probably find more authentic (and less tourist-trappy) places a bit further away. Plenty of street food stalls around though. Just don't eat anything that looks like it's been sitting under a heat lamp since the Vietnam War.

Image giesela · · OP

Haha, "carefully curated mayhem" is perfect! That's exactly the vibe I got from the photos. So, less "run for your life" and more "observe and maybe subtly participate"? Good to know. I'm not planning on getting into anything too crazy, just curious to see the scene. Flip-flops it is then! I'll definitely work on the "not about to faint" smile. Street food it is – as long as it doesn't look like it’s seen more action than a Vietnam War veteran. Thanks for the heads-up!

Bangkok's Charoen Rat Road Mysteries

fmd_good Charoen Rat Rd

So I'm heading to @Bangkok next month and I'll be spending a few days exploring Charoen Rat Road. I've read it's got a really cool mix of old and new, but I'm curious about the street food scene. Sp… more

Charoen Rat Road is a maze, you'll find stuff just wandering. Don't go looking for specific hidden gems, that defeats the purpose. Just get lost! Seriously. Wander down the sois (side streets), look for places packed with locals, not tourists. The smell will often be your best guide. Trust your gut; if a place looks busy and the food looks good, go for it. You'll probably find something amazing, and who knows what you'll discover. And yeah, food poisoning is a risk anywhere, so maybe pack some Imodium. But that's part of the adventure, right?
