Bangkok's Hidden Alleyways

fmd_good Sirisuk Apartment

So I'm heading to Sirisuk Apartment next week, it's near the Chao Phraya River, right? I've read about these amazing little alleyways near the old buildings. They look incredible in photos, full of… more

Depends on which alleyways you're talking about. Some are perfectly fine, bustling with people even late at night. Others… less so. Near the river, especially closer to the touristy areas, you'll probably be alright, even solo at night. But venturing further off the beaten path, especially into quieter sois (side streets) further from the main roads, increases the risk, regardless of gender. Common sense applies: stick to well-lit areas, avoid walking alone if it feels uneasy, and be aware of your surroundings. Don't flash expensive jewelry or electronics. If something feels off, trust your gut and leave. A Grab (ride-hailing app) is always readily available in @Bangkok, so don't hesitate to use it. Have fun exploring, but prioritize your safety!

Yeah, that makes total sense. I figured it wouldn't be all sunshine and roses, haha. I was mostly thinking about the vibe, you know? Like, the atmosphere in those less-traveled spots. I appreciate the heads-up about safety though – I'll definitely be sticking to the brighter areas and using Grab when needed. Thanks for the practical advice!

Bangkok Beat Hotel Mystery?

fmd_good Beat Hotel

So, I'm heading to the Beat Hotel in @Bangkok next month. Heard it's got some... *interesting* history. My uncle stayed there back in the 70s, said it was a total dive but full of amazing musicians… more

Your uncle's stories sound wild! The Beat Hotel in its heyday was definitely a magnet for all sorts of characters. It's long gone now, sadly, replaced by something... less interesting. Finding photos or posters from that era might be tough – try searching online archives of old Bangkok newspapers or magazines. You might get lucky. Even better, check out some of the older expat forums or Facebook groups focused on @Bangkok; someone might remember those crazy nights. Good luck with your quest – let us know what you uncover!
