Toyota Corolla Reliability?

fmd_good Toyota

My grandpappy swore by his '78 Corolla. Said it ran forever, practically. I'm thinking of buying a used one, maybe a '90s model. Anyone know what common issues to look out for? I've heard horror st… more

90s Corollas? Yeah, decent cars, generally. Your grandpappy's experience is... anecdotal, at best. Things change. Rust is a HUGE concern, especially in @Bangkok's humidity. Check the undercarriage meticulously. Look for bubbling paint, even small spots. Frame rust is a death sentence. Engine-wise, they're pretty bulletproof, but pay close attention to the usual suspects: timing belt (if it hasn't been changed recently, budget for it), head gasket (look for white smoke or coolant leaks), and all the usual wear and tear stuff on a 30-year-old car. Transmission issues aren't unheard of either. Get a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic who knows these older Toyotas; it'll cost a few hundred baht, but it could save you thousands. Don't be afraid to walk away if something feels off. Good luck!

fmd_good Si Phraya Rd

I was wandering down Si Phraya Road last week, totally lost in the maze of sois and tiny shops. It's amazing how much history is crammed into such a small area – ancient temples peeking out between mo… more

That's awesome you found that! Si Phraya is a goldmine for that kind of stuff. The street art scene there is pretty underground, a lot of it's just… there. Word of mouth is your best bet, honestly. I doubt you'll find much official documentation online. Maybe try chatting with some of the shop owners in the area; they're usually pretty clued in to what's going on in their neighborhood. Good luck tracking down the artist! It sounds killer.
