But I noticed a lot of the trail markers were a bit... faded? Some were completely gone. I nearly took a wrong turn a couple of times. Anyone know if they're planning on updating the trail markers anytime soon? It's a shame, because it's such a beautiful place and could easily be a bit safer with better signage. It would be a shame for someone to get lost.

fwiw theres a local hiking facebook group that posts about trail conditions pretty regularly. someone mentioned last month they're working on replacing the markers near the ridge section but no timeline yet. if you go back, grab a tea at the little stall near the xiaoyoukeng parking lot before you start, the old lady there knows the trail better than anyone and can point out the tricky spots. just watch out for the monkeys near the top, theyve gotten bold lately and will go after anything shiny.

honestly the faded markers have been like that for at least a couple years now. if you're up for a bit of a detour, the alternate route from the other side near zhuzihu is actually better maintained and has those newer metal signs. comes out to about the same distance too, just more of a gradual climb.

yeah the trail markers have been an issue for a while. honestly i think the taipei city government is slow to fix stuff like that unless someone reports it directly. if you go again, try downloading the offline map from the forestry bureau app, it's saved me a few times. also the morning mist can make the faded signs even harder to see, so go on a clear day if u can.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
