I've seen photos, it looks insane! My biggest worry is finding decent vegetarian options amongst all the amazing (and probably overwhelmingly meaty) dishes. Anyone who's been there, any tips on navigating the vegetarian food scene at Songshou Rd? I don't want to spend the whole trip just eating noodles!

Songshou is more of a daytime office lunch spot than a night market tbh, most stalls wrap by 8 or 9pm, so plan for lunch or early dinner. For veg stuff, hit the food court under Taipei 101 or the Eslite food hall on Songgao Rd instead, they have proper labeled vegetarian sets. The tiny stalls along Songshou skew heavy on beef noodle and fried pork, not much veg beyond sides. If u really want night market veg, Raohe a few blocks over is the better bet.

I live a few blocks from there and eat at Songshou most weeks. It's actually easier than people expect for vegetarians, because a lot of the stalls do su cai (vegetarian) versions of standard dishes if you ask, and there's a dedicated Buddhist stall near the Raohe end that does sesame oil noodles, braised tofu, and mock meat rice bowls for around NT$80. Learn the phrase "wo chi su" (I eat vegetarian) and clarify whether you eat eggs and dairy, since "su" can mean strict vegan to some vendors and just no meat to others. The mushroom and corn tempura stalls are a safe bet too, just confirm they don't fry in the same oil as the chicken.

timing tip nobody mentioned yet, go on a weekday around 11:30am and you'll catch the office lunch su cai places at full stock, way better variety than evenings

for actual sit down veg, walk to the basement of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi on Songshou, theres a set meal spot that does a full vegetarian tray for like NT$150 with soup and tea, and its air conditioned which matters in august

also download the happycow app before u land, it has the little su carts pinned and reviews in english, saved me a lot of pointing and guessing

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
