The street itself is...charming, I guess? Lots of little shops crammed together, a real mix of old and new. Anyway, I stumbled upon this tiny, almost hidden alleyway, it looked like it led to nowhere, seriously. But there was this faint, incredible smell of something amazing coming from it. I was too chicken to go in... what if it was a den of ninjas or something? Seriously, anyone been down that particular alley? What was that smell?

ngl you probably smelled the fried chicken from that place three doors in on the alley, the one with the red sign that just says "ji pai" in white. it's tiny, like four seats, and the lady running it has been there since the 90s. no ninjas, just really good crispy chicken and a line that moves fast around 5pm

honestly sounds like you found the back entrance to that old school bakery that does the pineapple cakes. my mom used to drag me there as a kid, the smell is insane but its just butter and sugar. definitely not ninjas

Haha, that sounds like Taipei alright! Mingshui Rd is a maze, I've gotten hopelessly lost there myself. That alleyway... yeah, there are a lot of those. Probably just some tiny family-run business, maybe a workshop or something. The amazing smell? Could be anything from amazing street food to, honestly, something less appealing. Taipei's alleyways are full of surprises. Next time, summon your inner Indiana Jones and check it out! You might find the best stinky tofu of your life, or...well, you might find something else entirely. Worth the risk, I say.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
