I'm not usually scared of caves, but this one had a really weird energy. The guide was great, though, really knowledgeable about the geology and history. But he wouldn't talk about one specific part of the cave, just kept saying it was "off-limits." Anyone else been there and noticed that? What's the deal with that section they won't let you see?

ngl the japanese bunker theory is probably the most boring explanation that makes the most sense. but i've also heard from an old wenshan district guide that there's a section of the cave system that was used for something called "ghost money" burning ceremonies back in the 60s. he said they sealed it off after some tourists got sick from the incense fumes trapped in the air pockets. not saying i believe it, but the vibe in there does match up with that kind of story.

if you want a less intense cave experience, go check out the one at wulai instead. way more open, you can actually stand up straight, and the hot springs nearby make it worth the trip out there.

I've been a few times and the guide always gets cagey around that section. One of the older guys who works the ticket booth told me it's actually a natural dead end that collapsed further in during the 1999 earthquake, and they just never bothered to clear it because the pathway was already narrow enough. He said the "off-limits" sign is mostly to stop people from getting stuck trying to squeeze through.

If you want another cave fix without the tight spaces, head up to Yehliu instead. The rock formations are above ground and you get sea spray instead of dust.

honestly i think its prob just an old military bunker or something. theres a bunch of tunnels under guandu from the japanese era, they used them for ammo storage during the war. the "off limits" section might just lead to one of those, and they dont want people poking around old unstable concrete. i've heard some locals say its connected to the old fort nearby, but nobody really knows for sure

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
