Jiuwushan Hike Advice?

fmd_good Jiuwushan

So I'm planning a solo hike up Jiuwushan next month. Heard the trails can be pretty gnarly, especially if you go off-trail. Any tips from experienced hikers on navigating the less-traveled paths? I'… more

Wow, Jiuwushan solo hike? Respect. That mountain's no joke. Stick to the marked trails, seriously. Getting lost there is not fun. Even if you're fit, the terrain can be brutal – loose rocks, steep drops… the whole shebang. Download offline maps before you go – and I mean really offline, not just relying on your phone's data. A compass and maybe even a whistle are good ideas too. Tell someone your exact plan, including your estimated return time, and check in with them when you can. As for getting there from Taipei, the easiest way is probably a bus. Look into buses going towards Yangmingshan National Park; Jiuwushan is within the park. Check a few different bus routes and schedules online beforehand – you don't wanna end up stranded. Pack plenty of water, snacks, and layers. Weather up there can change in a heartbeat. Have fun, and stay safe!

Taipei's Secret Sauce?

fmd_good Neihu Technology Park

So I'm heading to Neihu Technology Park next week for a conference. Heard it's buzzing with tech, but beyond the skyscrapers and silicon, what's the *real* Neihu like? Any hidden local eateries or ho… more

Neihu's got a surprisingly diverse food scene tucked away from the main drags. Forget the fancy stuff near the MRT – venture into the smaller residential lanes. You'll find tons of amazing little local joints serving up stuff like authentic beef noodle soup (牛肉麵), or maybe even some killer oyster omelets (蚵仔煎). Just wander around – you'll stumble across amazing places. Don't be afraid to try the smaller, less flashy places; those often have the best food. Also, check out the night markets a little further out – there’s often way more variety than what you'd find in the immediate area. Prepare to get lost a little; that's half the fun!
