Taipei Marriott Mystery

fmd_good Taipei Marriott Hotel

So, I'm staying at the Taipei Marriott Hotel next month – it's a work trip, bleh. Saw some pics online, looks swanky. My question is: what's the *real* deal with the rooftop bar? Is it worth the hy… more

Honestly? It's...fine. The view's undeniably great, especially at night, but the cocktails are seriously overpriced for what you get. Don't expect anything groundbreaking. It's stylish, sure, but the atmosphere can be a bit stiff; lots of business types and selfie-takers. I wouldn't call it a "tourist trap" exactly, but it's definitely playing to that crowd. Go for the view, maybe one drink to say you did it, but don't plan your whole night around it. There are way cooler, less pretentious bars in Taipei. If you want a really good cocktail, check out some of the speakeasies tucked away in the side streets – you'll find way more personality and less posing. Happy hour might make the Marriott's prices less painful, but even then…eh.

Taipei's Secret Sauce?

fmd_good Neihu Technology Park

So I'm heading to Neihu Technology Park next week for a conference. Heard it's buzzing with tech, but beyond the skyscrapers and silicon, what's the *real* Neihu like? Any hidden local eateries or ho… more

Neihu's got a surprisingly diverse food scene tucked away from the main drags. Forget the fancy stuff near the MRT – venture into the smaller residential lanes. You'll find tons of amazing little local joints serving up stuff like authentic beef noodle soup (牛肉麵), or maybe even some killer oyster omelets (蚵仔煎). Just wander around – you'll stumble across amazing places. Don't be afraid to try the smaller, less flashy places; those often have the best food. Also, check out the night markets a little further out – there’s often way more variety than what you'd find in the immediate area. Prepare to get lost a little; that's half the fun!
