Taipei's Best Veggie Beef?

The photos look insane, like seriously, vibrant red broth, perfectly chewy noodles...the whole nine yards. My question is: does it actually taste like beef? I'm a vegetarian but I miss the hearty, savory depth of a good beef broth sometimes. I'm worried it'll just be a weak veggie broth pretending to be beef, you know? I'm hoping for a revelation, not a disappointment. Is it worth the hype, or should I look for something else?

Honestly, the photos can be deceiving. I've had some amazing veggie "beef" in @Taipei, but also some that were...meh. That particular place's broth is known for being intensely flavorful, so it might hit that savory beef note you crave. But "tasting like beef"? That's subjective. It'll likely have a deep, umami richness thanks to the tomatoes and whatever mushrooms/soy products they use. Don't go in expecting a perfect beef replica, but if you're looking for a deeply satisfying vegetarian broth, it's probably worth a try. Prepare to be impressed by the presentation though, the pictures aren't kidding about that.

I've eaten there a few times and it's one of the better vegetarian shops in Taipei, but the beef flavor comes from a yeast extract and tomato base, not any meaty secret. The broth is thick and tangy, almost like a really good borscht crossed with a soy sauce stock, so it scratches that savory noodle soup itch without trying to trick you. If you want something that mimics the actual mouthfeel of beef tendon, try the braised "beef" tripe at Three Treasures Vegetarian on Linsen North Road, they use a layered wheat gluten that's surprisingly chewy.

ngl that place is legit but u gotta manage expectations. the broth is super rich from the tomatoes and some kinda soy protein base, it's not beef but it's got that heavy savory thing going on. i'd say go for the "beef" shank version if they have it, the texture is closer to what you're missing.

if you're still craving that beefy depth after, try the mushroom noodle soup at Lin Dong Fang on Yongkang Street, it's not trying to be beef but the broth is so deep and earthy it scratches the same itch for me. also the portions there are huge for like 150 NT, way better value.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
