Anyone know of any cool local haunts or hidden (not too hidden!) spots for a visitor to check out after the workday wraps? Looking for something beyond the usual chain restaurants... maybe somewhere with a genuinely Taiwanese vibe. I want to experience more than just the silicon side of things

If you want a proper Taiwanese vibe away from the office towers, head up to the Bishan Temple area in the hills behind Neihu. There's a small night market that forms around the temple plaza after 6pm, mostly locals grabbing stinky tofu and grilled corn. The best part is wandering up the steps to the temple itself, it's lit up at night and you get a clear view of the whole tech park below, feels like a different world.

honestly just walk up to the Dahu Park area from the tech park, it's like 10 mins on foot. the lakeside trail at sunset is super chill and there's a couple of old school tea houses tucked into the hills near the Guanyin statue. Jin Guan Yin Tea House is prob the most famous one but I like the smaller unnamed spot just past it, they do tieguanyin with this crazy view of the whole basin

if you want food with actual taiwanese flavor skip the main roads and duck into Lane 2 on Jihu Road, there's a wonton stall that's been there for like 30 years, no english menu just point at what the old guy is eating. closes by 8pm tho so go before teh crowds leave work

tbh the real hidden gem in Neihu is the old military dependents' village turned art space near the WuFu intersection, it's called Neihu 737 Art Lane or something like that. during the day it's just a normal market but after 6 the food stalls switch over to proper Taiwanese street food, I always grab the scallion pancake wrap from the aunty at the second stall, she's been there since I was a kid. also if you're around on a weekend morning the same spot has a small farmers market with fresh soy milk and youtiao, way better than the chain breakfast places

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
