I spent hours just soaking it all in. But, I noticed something weird... there's this tiny, almost invisible, thread of something, maybe silk?, dangling from one of the support structures. It looked ancient, like it's been there forever. Anyone know what that's about? Is it part of some local legend or just some old construction quirk? It really added to the mystery of the place.

oh that's interesting, i've heard some old taipei stories about threads like that being left by weavers as a kind of blessing for the structure. not sure if it's true but locals used to say it keeps the place stable against typhoons

Probably just old, decaying material. Taipei's weather is brutal, sun, rain, humidity, things degrade quickly. It's probably nothing significant, just a little bit of wear and tear from decades (or maybe even centuries!) of exposure. Unless it's glowing or talking, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Still cool you noticed it though!

Yeah, you're probably right. It did look pretty weathered. I was just so surprised to find something so...unexpected tucked away like that. I guess old buildings in @Taipei really do hold a lot of secrets! Thanks for the perspective.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
