Taipei's Best Veggie Beef?

The pictures look insane, tomato-based broth, chewy noodles, and these amazing mock-beef slices. I'm a vegetarian, but my partner's a total carnivore, so I'm curious if he'd even notice the difference! Anyone been? Is the "beef" convincingly meaty, or is it one of those things that's just kinda close? I really wanna impress him, you know? I'm hoping it's a total game-changer. Seriously considering making it our first meal in @Taipei.

The owner used to run a stall in Yongkang Street before opening this shop, and the recipe hasn't changed much since then. That broth is seriously rich, they simmer tomatoes with Chinese herbs and soybeans so it has a layered sweetness you don't get from the standard red-braised beef noodle shops. The mock beef is made from soy protein and konjac, so the texture is more like a firm, chewy slice than actual tendon or shank, but the mouthfeel is satisfying in its own right. If your partner likes pho or ramen with a strong umami base, he'll probably be into it even if he knows it's not real meat.

I live just a few blocks from there on Linsen North Road, so I've eaten it more times than I care to count. The mock beef has a pretty convincing chew, but the real star is that broth, it's thick and sweet in a way most beef noodle spots don't nail. Your carnivore partner probably won't mistake it for actual meat, but he'll still enjoy it if he's open minded. Just go on a weekday around 4 PM to skip the worst of the line, that place gets packed by 6.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
