The alley itself is quiet, almost eerily so. The buildings are old, some crumbling, others surprisingly well-maintained. There's a little shrine tucked away near the end, overflowing with offerings. I felt a strange sense of peace there, almost like a secret pocket of calm in the bustling city. The question is: what's the story behind that shrine? Is it connected to any local legends or traditions? I'd love to know more before I head back to explore more of @Taipei.

Those shrines along alleyways in Taipei are almost always local earth god temples, but Lane 162 has a bit of a reputation for being a holdout from the old Japanese-era grid. The area around there was redeveloped in the 70s, so that shrine is likely one of the few original structures left. If you go back, check the small stone plaque on the side of the shrine, it might have a date carved into it, sometimes those go back to the 1920s.

Oh yeah, I think I know the spot you mean. That shrine is likely a Tudigong temple, dedicated to the earth god who watches over that specific neighborhood. Locals probably keep it stocked with offerings for good luck and protection, nothing too crazy dramatic, just a quiet little tradition that's been going on for ages.

That's a cool find! Finding those quiet spots in a city like Taipei is half the fun. Shrines like that often aren't documented super well online, they're personal things for the local community. Your best bet for getting the story behind it would probably be to chat with some of the shopkeepers or residents in the area near Lane 162. They're your best resource for that kind of local history. Good luck! Let us know what you find out!

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
