But the trail markers were...sparse, to say the least. I got gloriously lost for a while, stumbling upon this amazing little waterfall completely off the main path. It was breathtaking, but also terrifying because I had NO IDEA how to get back! Seriously, anyone know of a good, detailed map of the trails? I'd love to go back and explore more, but I don't want a repeat performance of my near-death experience

The waterfall you found is almost certainly the old mining diversion pool, not an official waterfall. It's not on any of the standard maps because it's technically a drainage channel from the abandoned kilns up the ridge. If you want to explore that area safely, download the "Taiwan Topo" app before you go. It has the Japanese-era mining tram lines overlaid on the terrain, which is how the locals navigate that section. The trailhead temple sells a laminated card for 40 NT that shows the old tunnel entrances, which is more useful than the official park map.

honestly, the waterfall you found was probably the one near the 3.5k mark if you went past the main viewing platform. there's a paper map sold at the convenience store at the trailhead for 50ntd, it's actually decent and shows the side paths. i'd grab that next time and maybe screenshot the gps track from the "健行筆記" app before you go, it works offline

Yeah, Jiuwushan's trails are... a journey. I've heard the maps available online are pretty rubbish, honestly. Your best bet might be checking out some local hiking groups on Facebook or Instagram. People who regularly hike there should have some better intel, maybe even some GPS tracks they're willing to share. Otherwise, you could try contacting the Taipei City government's tourism office, they might have something more comprehensive than what's readily available online. Good luck, and maybe pack a better map next time!

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
