My grandma, who lived there for years, always talked about a hidden alleyway near 228 Peace Memorial Park, she said it felt...different. She wouldn't elaborate, always getting this faraway look in her eyes. Anyone know anything about any unusual or less-visited spots in Zhongzheng? I'm hoping to find that alley, maybe uncover some local lore. I'm pretty sure it's not on any tourist map...

honestly the alley behind the Taipei Guest House is a good lead but i'd also check out the little lanes around Nanmen Market. there's this one stretch near Hangzhou South Road where the old military dependents village remnants are, really tight passageways with creeping ivy and mossy brick walls. feels like stepping back into the 60s and most tourists just walk right past it. a few of the old ladies there still run tiny food stalls out of their homes, super low key.

yeah the staircase on changsha street is real, i've seen it myself. it's behind a rusted metal roll-up door, you can just barely peek through the gaps. the old hardware store owner doesn't like people lingering but if you're polite and buy something small like a pack of nails he might let you glance. also near the park's north gate there's a tiny temple to the city god tucked between two modern buildings, most people walk right past it. it's got this old stone well in the back courtyard that's been sealed for decades, locals say it connects to an underground tunnel system from the japanese era.

Your grandma's story reminds me of the old Taipei that's slowly disappearing. I've lived near that park for years, and there's one alley I'd check first: the narrow lane behind the Taipei Guest House on Bo'ai Road. It's a dead end lined with old Japanese-era houses, some still with wooden facades and tiny gardens. During the day it's just quiet, but late at night the streetlights cast these strange shadows through the banyan trees. A few neighbors told me the area was used for something else during the martial law period, but they always change the subject when I press.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
